"Pillars of Character" by: Alessandra
Pillars of Character
(Written By: Alessandra)
Hello soon to be 5th grader! I will talk to you about Skyview’s Pillars of Character. In Skyview, we have Pillars of Character. The pillars are caring, fairness, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, and citizenship. These pillars represent how you should act in Skyview. Every Friday in the morning announcements, people’s names will be called. That means they were caught being pillarific. Being pillarific means that you are being either respectful, responsible, fair, trustworthy, you could be caring, or you are being a good citizen. Following these Pillars of Character will make your experience at Skyview way more fun!
"Lockers" by: Connor, Jaye and Daniel
Do not worry, 4th graders!, lockers are a snap! When you first get your locker, you will be given a 3-digit combination code that will work for only your assigned locker. Don’t panic, when you first get your locker, your teacher will practice with you and help you for the first few days! Also, just so that you are informed, some lockers are bigger than others, but they all fit everything you need perfectly!
"Getting Around Skyview" by Alina and Cora
Dear Fourth Grade Students,
Getting around Skyview can be a little confusing. You’ll get the hang of it in a couple of weeks. Here are some tips to help you find your way around Skyview. First, stay with your class. The hallways will seem confusing to get through, but your teacher will walk you to your destination the first week. Second, the upstairs has the same layout. The classrooms and hallways are in the same spots. Third, some hallways have a sign with the name of the team, teachers, and classroom numbers on them. Those signs will make it easier to navigate. Using these tips you will soon get around Skyview like a pro!
"Lunch" by Matt S., Chilly and Ava
Lunch
Written by: Matt S. , Chilly, and Ava
5th grade is really fun, and you should be really excited for what's ahead of you. One really fun part is lunch. It's fun because the first 3 days you are with your homeroom and after the third day, you can sit with whoever and wherever you want to sit. It is also a good time to relax and have a chat with your friends.
"Letter Days" by: Anthony D., Bella and Chris
Hello...soon to be 5th graders at Skyview Upper Elementary. One thing you are going to have to get used to is the 6-day letter schedule. I know what you’re thinking, there is only 5 days in a school week and we have a 6 day schedule?? But don’t worry, it all works out. To break it down you will have an A,B,C,D,E, and F day. This continues to cycle over and over again until the end of the school year. The way it work is that if we have a day off, or a snow day, the next day you come back, it will be the letter day you were supposed to have the day you were off! For example, if today is an A day and we happen to have a scheduled day off from school tomorrow, then next day you come back it would be a B day. That’s all you need to know about Skyview’s 6-day letter schedule. You will have the hang of it in no time and your teacher will post the day on his/her board every day.
Get Involved at Skyview!
(BLAST) Hello future 5th graders, my name is Alexis. Do you have an older sibling in BLAST? Do you even know what BLAST is? Well I will tell you all about it. BLAST stands for Being Leaders and Serving Together. BLAST is a fun thing so think about volunteering. In my opinion, I think BLAST is perfect for me because it’s not in the morning or night and we don't have to drive to school special for it, it is at 8th period. You might be wondering how to join BLAST. To be a member you have to be a good role model and student so get involved and join!!! HAVE FUN AT SKYVIEW AND DON'T FORGET TO JOIN BLAST!!!!!!!
Hello 4th grade friend. Welcome to Skyview! I’m Kellsey and I'm going to tell you about Career Day. At Career Day, parents, friends, and relatives come in and talk about their job.Even your parents come in and talk about their job! You will make a flyer in computer literacy class to inform your parents. It's so much fun! You will definitely enjoy career day!
Hello upcoming 5th graders. My name is Madison and I will be telling you about the student vs. faculty basketball game. What happens is that the 5 kids that raise the most money for the American Heart Association will get a chance play basketball against against the teachers. The teacher will have the option to play the game, but most of them will want to play. If they choose to play, they each play a quarter or two. t is the most important basketball game of the year and so much fun to watch!
Hello, Future 5th graders! My name is Taylor and I will be talking about Sky Olympics. You probably don't know what it is. It means Skyview Olympics. It is like Field Day, but it is called a different name. Your gym teacher will give you a color of either blue, green, red and yellow. After you get a color you will start. You do it for 4 gym days .It is a lot of fun! Hope you like it!
"Schedule and Teams" by: Michael and Anthony C.
You will get assigned a team of either Comets, Galaxy, Stars, Mountaineers, and finally the Storm Chasers. On every team there are 2 or 3 different teachers. And you switch classes to go to math, social studies, and science. You will also have a new schedule with letter days. You will also get new specials like Computer Literacy and 2 gym days. I really think that you would like Skyview.
"Accelerated Reader" by: Nicole
Accelerated Reader
Written By, Nicole
Skyview is a wonder place to learn. In your class, you will have Accelerated Reader. You will have to read at least 3 books per marking period. Most teachers require at least 1 book to be nonfiction, and at least 1 book has to be fiction. This may seem like a lot, but this assignment is actually a breeze. For each AR test you take, you accumulate points. The system will also give you a list of books they think you will like. It also gives you the option to take a vocabulary test. You can search the book, take the test, and then check your points. You can also look at the books that you’ve read and taken tests on. It’s kind of like a book log. As you can tell, you have the option to read a LOT here at Skyview.
"Organization" by: Ella
Coming to Skyview is a new experience and organization is an important part of this transition. In Skyview you should be organized. For example, when you switch classes, you need to bring all of your materials because most of the time you aren't allowed back in your homeroom after you are already settled in your class, to get materials. You also have a lot more responsibility, for example more projects that are usually worth a lot of your grade and have specific due dates. 5th grade requires a lot of responsibility but is also, definitely a lot of fun. Good luck!
"Scavenger Hunt/Open House" by: Adelaide
Dear future 5th grader,
You might be nervous about 5th grade. But you won’t be clueless about where you’re going on the first day. That's because before school starts, there’s a scavenger hunt. One night, Skyview holds an open house for families to come and basically explore the school. There will probably be at least one person you know there, so you can do it with someone, or you can do it alone if you want. You’ll get a piece of paper and a pencil, and on the paper will be a bunch of different locations, like you’re homeroom, the art room, or the gym. Your job is to find all those locations, and check it off on your paper. You actually don’t really need to finish it. It's really just to get a sense of how Skyview is set up. But you should at least try. So have fun!
