Manavon Represents at PMEA String Fest
On Wednesday March 8th, 5th graders Addilyn Smith and Claire Gallagher represented Manavon Elementary School at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 12 5/6 String Fest. Our Phoenixville students enjoyed rehearsing their music throughout the entire day at E.T. Richardson Middle School with the other chosen 5/6 Phoenixville string students, as well as students from surrounding school districts. They then performed an outstanding concert that same evening. Congratulations to all of our Phoenixville string participants and to Miss Rue who helps grow these students in their musical talents!

SECOND STEP! Lesson 18!
This week in Second Step: Lesson 18 was delivered on Monday, March 6. See below for information on this unit. We started a new unit! Problem-Solving. This is our last Unit of Second Step! Our next lesson will be on Monday, March 6.
Problem-Solving: Students learn how to apply their emotion management, communication, and empathy skills to solve interpersonal problems and demonstrate strategies for effectively dealing with interpersonal conflict.
You’ll receive weekly communications from me to help you reinforce Second Step language, skills, and goals at home. If you have any questions about Second Step Elementary, please don’t hesitate to contact me for more information. Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community!
During this unit your child(ren) will be working on: Click the Grade Level Below!
This week, chat with your child(ren) about:
- Grade 2: Which Solution? In this week’s lesson, your child will learn that some solutions are better than others for a problem. Try This at Home: Ask your child if playing rock, paper, scissors would be a good solution if they spilled water on someone’s paper. Why or why not?
- Grade 3: T: Think and E: Explore: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn to analyze possible solutions to a problem by considering whether each solution gives each person what they want. Try This at Home: Ask your child to explain how they would decide whether a solutions works for each person involved in a problem.
- Grade 4: Exploring Outcomes: In this week’s lesson, your child will learn how to weigh the pros and cons of possible solutions to an interpersonal problem by thinking about the points of view of everyone involved. Try This at Home: Talk with your child about a time when they successfully solved an interpersonal problem. What solutions did they consider, and what were the pros and cons of each solution? Describe a time when you found it helpful to think of each person’s point of view when predicting whether a solution to an interpersonal problem might work.
- Grade 5: Solutions Web: In this lesson, your child will evaluate solutions to an interpersonal problem by thinking about the problem from each person’s point of view. Try This at Home: Tell your child about a simple interpersonal problem that you’ve experienced and describe each person’s point of view about the problem. Ask them to help you think of solutions and predict the possible outcomes of each solution.
