School Happenings
Time for the Maple Dale Harvest Parade!
Please join us for a fun parade around the outside perimeter of Maple Dale! Our students and teachers will be ready to entertain parents, grandparents and friends next Thursday, October 31st from 2:30 - 3:00 p.m.
Our route for the parade (weather permitting) will be around the entire perimeter of our school. Spectators are asked to stand on the grass or pavement and leave the sidewalks clear for our students and their teachers. We will make two complete “loops” so that you may see your children twice.
Parking will be available at district offices and in our main lot only...so try to carpool if you can. Police from the Blue Ash Police Department will be on hand to help out with parking.
As in years past, try to guess the costume theme of the staff! We look forward to seeing you next week!

Maple Dale “We Are Thankful To Give” Giving Drive to benefit Northeast Emergency Distribution Services (NEEDS)
A great way to help children understand the importance of giving to others...
Please consider donating an item to help with stocking the shelves at the NEEDS food pantry this Thanksgiving season.
There will be a collection box located in the Maple Dale office from now until November 22nd.
Items in Need:
Boxed side dishes: Potatoes, rice mixes, hamburger and tuna helper
Canned fruit
Canned peas, carrots, beets, tomatoes, corn, green beans
Spaghetti sauce
Canned soups, especially beef, tomato and vegetable
Personal care items including bar soap, body wash, razors, shaving cream deodorant, toothbrushes and feminine care items
Home Care items: Laundry detergent, dryer sheets, dish soap, cleaning products, and paper towels
Parents: Slight Change in Curbside Pick-up Protocol
Parents, starting Monday, October 22, we will require you to park and come in to pick up your child if you do not inform us by noon on the day of pick-up that your child will be a car rider.
This would apply to students who normally are not car riders. We understand that things come up that require a “last minute” change of plans. As you might imagine, making last-minute changes takes time and communication with the classroom teacher. Having the change request by noon will ensure that we are able to notify your child’s teacher in time to make the change.
Lost & Found
Parents -
If your child has lost an item at school (sweatshirt, coat, lunchbox, etc) please encourage him or her to check the lost & found. Items can be found to the left of the cafeteria.
Please feel free to check lost and found while you are here for conferences or click here to see the current items.
Thank you!

In Case You Missed It...
Did You Know?
We know you may have questions about Maple Dale. Did you know that a great resource for school information is our website? It is accessible anytime! From the Sycamore Community Schools Homepage, click on "OUR SCHOOLS" and choose "MAPLE DALE ELEMENTARY" from the drop-down menu. The green bar at the top lists various topics of interest (Our School, Students, & Parents) Of particular help may be the Student-Parent Handbook for answers to many questions.
We hope this provides a quick way to get the information you need. If not, we welcome your call to our school! We are here to help!
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES/ABSENCES
We understand changes in transportation happen, however, making many last minute changes puts a large strain on our front office admins. If you need to make a change, please make sure to send in a note or an email (lakek@sycamoreschools.org) BEFORE 3 pm to the office AND your student's teacher.
Click here for the Parent Communication Form.
LOST & FOUND
Thanks to our wonderful EA, Miss Pat, the Lost and Found is organized and many items are returned to the students IF there is a name on the item. If your child has lost an item of clothing, a lunch box, water bottle or the like, have him or her check the lost and found near the cafeteria. Items of significant value are kept in the office.
Please remember to label your child’s belongings…most importantly their jackets, lunch boxes, backpacks, and water bottles with his/her first and last name. These items tend to go missing from time to time and even though we encourage responsibility, having these items clearly labeled allows us to return them, when found.
PTO Corner
Recycling Rangers
Here you will find easy and impactful ways that your kids (sometimes with your help) can help our planet. Here is the first one!
Sycamore Community Schools is helping the community reduce food waste by providing new compost drop-off stations.
For years, it has been the district’s mission to reduce food waste educationally and operationally. In an effort to continue its positive impact the district has collaborated with GoZero where every 46 pounds of food waste composted removes the equivalent of one typical day’s worth of driving emissions from the atmosphere.
There are currently four stations across the district at Blue Ash Elementary, Symmes Elementary, Sycamore Junior High School and Sycamore High School. Residents are invited to sign up at https://gozero.org/station-listings/sycamore to bring compostable food waste from home to one of the district drop-off stations where it will be composted rather than landfilled along with the school’s cafeteria waste.
Food waste is a major source of greenhouse gases and costs billions in natural resources and supply chain losses each year.
Drop-off stations are open dawn to dusk and can be found at the following link: https://gozero.org/station-listings/sycamore, just look for the green buckets!

Vision and Hearing Screening Parent Volunteers Needed
Did you know that according to the National Commission on Vision and Health, 25% of children aged 5-17 have a vision problem? Please help out our nurse Carolyn Adee during the last week of October by donating a few hours of your time to help out with Vision and Hearing Screenings for our Kindergartners, 1st and 3rd graders. No prior experience is needed. A quick 15 min training session is included in the time slot. Sign ups are for 2-3 hours depending on number of parent volunteers for each session. We know how precious your time is and we are incredibly appreciative of your support (feel free to sign up for more than one session)!
