Pinewood Elementary Weekly Update
August 14, 2020
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!!
On behalf of the Pinewood staff, I want to sincerely thank each and every family who attended our back-to -school conferences. As your educational partners, we are eager to provide consistent support and instruction to your children. While the thought of starting this year in distance learning can be overwhelming for us all, the meetings over the past days have brought reassurance.
As we settle into a routine, we must remember to show one another grace as we work towards the common goal of educating our Pinewood children. Continue to communicate with us if you have a need or a concern. We will work hard to problem solve for you. Continue to understand that this approach is new for our staff. I can't promise things will run perfectly from the start, but I can promise our staff will continue to strive the do their best every day. Above all, continue to maintain a sense of optimism for our students. All of us are feeling the stress and effects from the COVID-19 pandemic. Let's strive to support , listen, and offer hope to one another.
Introduction to IXL
In our conferences, teachers shared that we will be utilizing the online IXL program to help students master content skills. A great place to start is in the Diagnostics arena of the program. Having your child work through this assessment component will help pinpoint their individual level. It is suggested that students work at this for shorter time frames over the span of several days. Parents please take the time to review this IXL resource in order to support your child with this activity:
Thank you to all the families who have confirmed your data in the Aeries system. It you have yet to do so, it is imperative that you create an account, confirm your data and authorize some information. You will need your child's student ID number and a verification code. This information was mailed home to you. If you have recently enrolled or need these numbers again, please call the school office for assistance.
Beginning Monday, parents may bring their child to the Pinewood Cafeteria to access our Internet using a Chromebook. There are 20 devices available for use and only one user will be seated at a single table. Note that a parent may sit with their child at this table to offer support and guidance. This facility will be supervised by a staff member from 8:30 am -3:30 pm every school day. Visitors will be required to wear a mask, sanitize hands upon entry and sign in and out. It is advised that students bring their own headphones. In the event that the gym is at capacity, we will ask you to wait outside until a device becomes available. Know that our public network will be open and accessible from our parking lot. You may bring your own device and connect using this approach.
