Director's Newsletter
October 2019
Dear Parents,
We are now over halfway through the first term and it has been great to see all of our students settled into their classes and routines established. Systems have also been reviewed from last year and new pick up and drop off procedures have been implemented throughout the school in order to maintain safety around the school campus. I would like to thank all parents for their patience whilst these routines were being established. Due to these changes, there has been a much safer and calmer exit and entry into the school as Secondary students now go directly to their own buildings in the morning. A more controlled procedure for Secondary students collecting primary school siblings has further helped our drive to improve student well-being at Ajman Academy.
As part of our internal school evaluation framework, Ajman Academy is undergoing a whole school Learning and Teaching Audit. The purpose of this audit is to evaluate learning and teaching standards across the school in order to determine areas which reflect best practice and those which require development. The audit will be conducted by the Senior Leadership Team and senior curriculum leaders. The findings from the audit will allow for intervention/support strategies to be put into place in order to deliver the very best learning outcomes for our students. The data generated from the audit, apart from being good practice, will be used as evidence of reflective practice for any external accrediting and authorising bodies such as the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the International Baccalaureate (IB).
The start of November 2019 sees a CIS Team, consisting of nine people, visit Ajman Academy in the final stage of attaining full accreditation status. The team will look at all aspects of the school including curriculum, learning and teaching, student well-being, facilities, community relationships and leadership. We hope that the team will validate the excellent progress that has been made. They will, inevitably, offer recommendations that we can use to improve the school further. These recommendations will be incorporated into the school’s strategic planning for the coming years and we will share these and any commendations with you in due course.
I am also pleased to inform you that our successful Artificial Intelligence programme has now been embedded into the curriculum this academic year. Students from Grades 6-8 are learning about Robotics, Drones and Electronics. We have also launched Design and Technology as a new curriculum subject this year in Grades 6-8 and as an IGCSE subject. This further reinforces our commitment to nurturing digital citizenship and innovation to the highest standards.
During the start of this week, all teachers at Ajman Academy participated in Professional Development days. These days allow time for our teachers to be trained and reflect on their classroom practice. Reflecting on and implementing the very best approaches to learning will continue to improve learning outcomes for our students. Further training days are planned in February and May 2020.
I look forward to seeing our students continue to enjoy the rest of the term.
Best wishes,
Fiyaz
