Special Olympics!!!

The Special Olympics was held in Milton Frank Stadium on April 6 and April 11. It started with the opening ceremony where the kids sang the national anthem and did the pledge. There were many volunteers offering such activities as face painting, nail painting, balloons, singing and dancing, therapy dogs, and more. All ages could compete in the Special Olympic Track events.

Walk-A-Thon

SGA hosted their annual Walk-A-Thon this Friday, April 11. Students payed a dollar per class to walk and play on the field for half of the block. The SGA members sold pizza, snow cones, and donuts for two dollars. The money was raised for Mana House and a Sparkman family in need.

Indoor Drumline

The Sparkman drumline left for the WGI percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio April 9. The WGI is the only percussion circuit in the world. They will compete against about 52 other groups nation wide. The drumline currently holds the following title/record:

- 3 time Alabama State Champions (2011- 13)

- 3 time southeastern U.S. Champions (2011- 13).

Da Vinci on Display

On February 27, 37 ninth graders and 3 SHS students visited the Leonardo da Vinci Exhibit displayed at the Space and Rocket Center. Students from Ms. Ruffing's Art Club and Mr. Williams' Pre-AP World History class immersed themselves into numerous pieces of art and inventions and even discovered the secrets behind the Mona Lisa.

Freshman NIght

Incoming 9th graders were welcomed Thursday night, April 10, for S9 Freshman night. Students were given information on choir, drama club, yearbook, JROTC, and dance team. SGA President AJ Brien opened the floor to Mr. Hester, who welcomed students and parents, and introduced the expectations for S9.
