Final Week of Remote Learning Info and Updates
First: No new instruction or assignments will be given, so I strongly encourage you to review Infinite Campus now for any “I” standing for “incomplete” which signifies that we have not received that assignment. Students must complete 70% or more of graded work to avoid summer school, so identify any incompletes or even low-score work and submit it immediately to your teacher.
Second: Teachers may not be hosting their regular Microsoft Teams sessions this week, but each of them is available during normal work hours by e-mail for any questions or needs, including requests for Microsoft Teams help sessions.
Third: All student work must be turned in by May 15th in order for it to be considered. Please submit your work as early as possible though!
Celebrating Ridgeview’s 8th Graders
Our ways to celebrate our 8th graders might be different than a normal year, but we won’t miss an opportunity to recognize our 8th graders and to “wave them off” into their futures. Please read about specific details for two upcoming events on Monday, May 18th:
Virtual 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony
- What: a virtual recognition of our students including staff remarks, student remarks, a recognition and photo of each student, school-wide awards, and more.
- How: a link will be emailed; texted; and posted to the “home” of our website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- When: the link will be sent out at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 18th. The event will last approximately 30 minutes.
- Where: it’s virtual and can be watched from any device with internet access.
8th grade Student and Family Drive-through Processional
- What: families are invited to drive through the Ridgeview parking lot where faculty and staff will wave, cheer, congratulate, and say “see you later.” Each 8th grader will also receive a gift bag with certificate and small gift as they exit the drive-through processional.
- How: all participants will always stay in their car; no one will be permitted to stop/park or to get out of their vehicle for any reason.
- When: on Monday, May 18th, families with
last names A-L are asked to drive through from 10:15-10:45;
families with last names M-Z are asked to drive through from 10:45-11:15.
- Where: traffic may enter through S. Trimble or the access road, and we will direct you through a driving procession and parade through the Ridgeview parking lot.
Collection of Ridgeview Belongings and Returning Student Belongings
Ridgeview will collect school-owned belongings (excluding iPads and iPad equipment) and will have curb-side distribution of student belongings which have been “tagged and bagged” for efficient pick-up.
- What: All students/families are asked to return Ridgeview-owned items and at the same time will be provided any student belongings from lockers/PE lockers as well as yearbooks. Items to return include 8th grade students’ band or orchestra instruments and all students will return school-owned textbooks, materials checked out from the media center, athletic uniforms, etc. (iPads and iPad equipment are not being collected from any RCMS student). Please print and fill out a “Window Tag” and place it in your front window when you come to pick up.
- How: families will drive through the rear of the school, stopping at the rear band door for 8th grade families dropping off an instrument, and all families will proceed through the carpool lane to receive “bagged and tagged” student items curbside. No one will exit their car while on site.
- When: on Tuesday, May 19th or Wednesday, May 20th families with
last name A-F from 9-10
last name G-L from 10-11
last name M-R from 12-1
last name S-Z from 1-2.
- Where: traffic may enter through S. Trimble or the access road, and we will direct you through the line appropriately.
Olympics are Coming Remotely
It wouldn’t be an end to the school year at Ridgeview without the Olympics tradition continuing. The PE staff are hard at work planning a virtual Olympics for us during the week of May 18-22nd. Stay tuned!

7th Grade RCMS Students Shine in Virtual Social Studies Fair!
We are very proud of our 7th graders, Karuna Damle and Elizabeth (Ellie) Ryan. These students are proof that good things come to those who are willing to sacrifice to reach a worthwhile goal.
The Virtual Social Studies State Fair took place on May 2, 2020. Even with Remote Learning in place, Ellie and Karuna were diligent in creating the best project possible to participate in the State’s First Virtual Social Studies Fair.
Ellie and Karuna’s project topic; “How do wedding ceremonies differ between USA, Southeast Asia and Southwest Asia?”
This project won Best Overall score in Class II (7th and 8th graders) in the discipline of Geography AND "Best Use of Technology".
Congratulations!!
Art In Place Contest
We challenge all Ridgeview students to make a submission to one of our arts teachers (Mr. McGraw, Ms. Stanton, Mrs. Dixon, and Mrs. Gilbert) to tell us how Art Uplifts, especially during this time when we are all sheltering in place – thus the name of our contest “Art in Place.” Make it your free-time or craft-time project this weekend or any day in the coming weeks, and GET CREATIVE! Submit a 3-minute or less video of you performing art or of art you’ve created with a voiceover of how Art Uplifts, and use the name “Art in Place” in your video. Submit it to us. We’re selecting winners to be recognized by Ridgeview and Sandy Springs Arts Foundation, and we can’t wait to share the power of middle school arts with others in our community.
Through this incredible partnership, Sandy Springs Arts Foundation has committed a donation of $5,000 to the RCMS Foundation to specifically support arts and music funding for next school year!
For device support: Students or Parent/Guardians should call the Remote Learning Hotline (470) 254-2300, option 8
This will put you in touch with an STS to review the issue. If it can’t be resolved, another device will be issued through an appointment in the coming weeks.
Services provided by the Hotline are:
- Troubleshooting a current device; if problem persists –
- Creating an appointment to swap a device or a power cable
- Creating an appointment to obtain a new device (grades 3 – 12, including newly enrolled students)
- Password reset or accessibility issues (same Hotline, option 9)
All other issues should be handled through our regular Service Desk 470-254-HELP
