Walker-Winter Family Update
Great Futures Start Right Here!
Week of April 10, 2023
Hello!
As a school, we will focus on our P2 of Social Intelligence. Social Intelligence means that you are aware of other people's thoughts and feelings. You understand why they do things. We look forward to reading, discussing, and watching video clips of Social Intelligence. Each day, our K-5 teachers lead our students in class meetings, discussions and activities with a focus on our Positivity Project focus of the week. The office, specials, support staff, and lunch use our P2 language so our students and staff have a common focus and language. For more details, please click on Positivity Project for Families Go to Resources then P2 for families or P2 para familias en espanol. Password is P2. Read about ways that your family can support this at home.
Walker Redesign
In December 2022, our school board approved and the district and I communicated that Walker is in a redesign which starts next year. . We will have Project Based Learning (PBL) professional development for the staff this spring and summer, and then start the implementation process of PBL with our students for the 23-24 school year.
As a school, with district support, we are researching other elements that we would like to add to PBL. This may include STEM/STEM and technology partners. We are excited about this process!
Our redesign is for all of our current home-school Walker students which include our multi-language (ML formerly EL) students and current SOC families. Current TAG students will be blended into our other classrooms until the TAG cohort is transitioned out of 5th grade.
For the 23-24 school year, we are not accepting Schools of Choice (SOC) students except for incoming Kindergarten and a few incoming 4th graders. That SOC window has now closed. As interest grows, we will create a waitlist for families who would like to attend Walker-Winter.

Absence letters
Attendance is extremely important to your child’s education.
When a student reaches 5, 10, and then 15 absences, and/or tardies, our school (consistent district-wide) will contact families through letters. Excused and unexcused absences count.
We do understand and work together if there are unusual family situations that have been reported to the school by parents/guardians. Communication is key.
Parents/guardians who fail to communicate with the school and make efforts to have consistent timely attendance will be reported for truancy.
Need to pick your child up early for an appointment?
Parents, please come to the office by 3:30. The end of the day is extremely busy and makes it difficult to have your child ready. Thank you.
