School Safety and Security Update! From Mr. Formolo
Thank you Parents and Guardians for your support of a single secure entrance to our school! I know this has created a headache for many of you! Over the last few weeks I have witnessed chaos become order! Thank you for being patient as you wait to drop of your student. While not clearly designated, please wait your turn before making the loop back out of the parking lot. During the heavy drop off times, we have both vehicles and students making their way to the Main Office! I also want to acknowledge our parents and guardians who have students taking buses to school. I know it is not ideal to have your kids dropped off at the corner of 12th and Washington. I had hoped to make quicker progress with both Prigge Bus Company and Shoreline Metro, but their are barriers we need to continue to problem solve. Thank you for your patience as well!
We are working at a new design for our front entrance to make it safer and more efficient for student drop off!
Reminders on a few rules regarding school safety and security:
We will maintain a single secure entrance from 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Students are to ONLY use the Main Office for all entry and exit from the building until 3:10 PM (end of school day).
Students may exit any doors at the conclusion of the school day, but any re-entry will need to come through the Main Office until 4:00 PM. After 4:00 PM the Commons Doors will be opened for our school’s community based activities.
Students are not to use or open for others ANY doors during the school day. While we have had minimal violations of this thus far, I want to reinforce the importance that even though you know someone or exiting a particular door is more convenient, this behavior puts our school at-risk. Thank you for reinforcing this with your student!
In addition to implementing procedures for a more secure and safe school, we have for years taken the threat of a school intruder very seriously and were the first school in the district to implement training for both staff and students through a protocol called A.L.I.C.E. Linked to this newsletter and found on our school website is a video starring yours truly! We provide this training, not only through the lens of school safety, but also as a lesson for community safety.
