So Much Snow!
Crews will be working over the winter break to remove snow from our parking lot and restore several of our missing parking spaces. It will be tight quarters for our Holiday program, so carpooling might be the best idea for families.
Please Join us for our Winter Concert!
Classroom Giving Tree
The Myers-Wilkins Parent Advisory Council is sponsoring its 2nd annual Giving Tree. The paper tree will be located in the office and decorated with snowflakes labeled with classroom needs. This can vary from school supplies, snacks for students, books, or games. Myers-Wilkins' families can remove a snowflake, purchase the requested item, and return it to the teacher listed. Thanks for considering this support for our classrooms.

From the Reading Team
We (Ms. Moran and Ms. Bowker) feel so lucky to work with students who get an extra scoop of reading, beyond their classroom each day. Everyday students read a new book, at just the right challenge level. In addition to reading, we work on writing, word study, and dive into comprehending a wide variety of texts. If you have a 1st or 2nd grader bringing home books from their reading group, please relish in the opportunity to listen to your little reader show off their skills. If you have a 3rd-5th grader, there are so many good books you can read together from the library, or school. The more reading, the better!

An Opportunity to Serve - A Message from Assistant Superintendent Horton
Dear Parents/Guardians,
When schools, families and communities work together more students achieve at higher levels.
Knowing that, we’re inviting families to become more involved in our school leadership teams, which are called Continuous Improvement Teams or CITs.
The team includes building administration, teacher leaders, and parents/guardians. Its purpose is to improve student achievement for all learners.
Team meeting dates and times are the decision of each school. In general, teams meet 1-2 time(s) per month for 1-2 hour(s) before or after school. New CIT members will receive introductory training.
CITs also focus on equity. The Duluth School District follows the Ten Minnesota Commitments to Equity. In addition, ISD 709 adopted an equity framework and uses the Tool for Equity Accountability to help make decisions and consider the impact of decisions on all learners.
We encourage you to consider joining your school CIT and helping us with this important work. Please contact your school principal if you’re willing to make the commitment.
Thank you for your consideration and support.
Sincerely, Jeff Horton Assistant Superintendent

Myers-Wilkins is a diverse school with a wonderful staff and great opportunities!
We encourage each family to be actively involved in their child’s education. Support comes in many ways. Families and caregivers can become active with our family advisory group, volunteer in the classroom once or twice a month, or simply designate a special time each night to talk about your child’s day and spend 15 minutes reading together. Our Wednesday folders are a great tool for school and home connections.
