REMIND
You can find out more about it here:https://www.remind.com/features
We are ready to try this school wide. This will allow us to quickly send school wide reminders and information.
If you would like to join our Remind group follow the directions below. Again we are trying this out as a way to better communicate with our families. As with anything new there can be bumps in the road.
If you are having trouble signing up or want more information please contact Mrs. Schofield.
Ideas for Win Win
Thinking Win-Win is the belief that everyone can win. It’s not you or me—it’s both of us. By working with your child to come up with a solution, will help you both be happier in the situation and work through the conflict better each time.Think of an ongoing conflict you tend to have with your child (homework, cleaning his or her room, feeding the dog) and then discuss a win-win solution to the conflict. Write down the solution and then remind each other of it the next time the situation arises.

Iowa Early Literacy Law
I’d like to provide an overview on the status of the Iowa Early Literacy Law. In May of 2018, schools will be required to provide summer reading programs for 3rd grade students who are both persistently at risk and not proficient on Iowa Assessment.
There are several key components to be aware of at this time.
* Universal screening: Our district screens kindergarten through third grade students suing the Formative Assessment System for Teachers (FAST).
* Parent Notification: Parents are notified in writing if their child is considered persistently at risk as indicated on FAST.
* Intensive instruction (interventions): The students who are considered persistently at risk are progress monitored and receive targeted skill-based intervention instruction.
* Progress monitoring: Teachers monitor student progress on a weekly basis for those students who fall below the target to determine the direction of instructional practices. Parents will be notified of their child’s progress toward proficiency.
* Summer based reading program: At the end of next school year (17-18) 3rd grade students persistently at risk and not proficient on the Iowa Assessment in reading are allowed to enroll in a summer reading program.
* Retention: Our district will be focused on prevention not retention. Retention will not be considered for any third-grade student who is eligible for and completes a summer reading program, nor for any student who qualifies for an exemption. Although we will be following state guidelines, the final decision rests with schools in collaboration with parents.
