The Siegrist Star
Week of September 4, 2023
At Siegrist Elementary, we believe that excellence is intentionally built on strong foundations through carefully crafted blueprints representing the most exciting possibilities. Our Platte City police officers always make an effort to stop by at lunch time when they are available and visit with the students to build relationships. This week Sgt. Mark Rock and Officer Colette Cromer stopped by the lunchroom.
Students also had a visit from Diana who is studying at the Northland Career Center in the teacher professions program. Teaching students to build relationships in our community is a great foundation for their future.
Don't forget NO school on Monday, Sept 4. I hope everyone has a fun and safe Labor Day weekend.
Best,
Johna-Kaye Sutton

PICTURE DAY
Our school picture day will be held on September 6. Don't forget to mark your calendars. Our district has chosen to use Reed Portrait Group this year. We are excited to welcome them to our school. Order forms went home with students this week.
DOT DAY CELEBRATION
On Friday, Sept. 15, Siegrist will be celebrating Dot Day. This special day is based on a book written by Peter H. Reynolds titled The Dot. His purpose for writing this book was to remind readers that creativity lies within each of us. This power allows us to enrich ourselves and everyone around us.
On Friday, Sept. 15, students are invited to wear clothing with dots on it. Your child can get creative, but anything with dots is just fine!

Professional Learning Days (PLD)
On Monday, September 11, school will not be in session for our first Professional Learning Community (PLC) day of the 2023-24 school year. **NOTE - we have moved from early release PLC days to full PLC days starting with the 2023-24 school year.
PLC days are designed to establish sustained and uninterrupted time for teachers to work together and collaborate to improve student learning and achievement. This time allows educators to examine and respond to the four basic fundamental questions of a Professional Learning Community:
- What is it we want students to learn?
- How will we know when each student has achieved the learning?
- How will we respond when a student is not learning?
- How will we respond when we know a child has mastered the learning?
For more information on PCR-3's Professional Learning Community, visit the PLC page on the district's website.
PowerSchool Parent Portal
Parents can use Parent Portal (www.plattecountyschooldistrict.com/parents/parent_portal) to keep up to date on grades and assignments (for students in grades 6-12), attendance, and we will soon have active links to meal payments and fees. Parents who did not receive their new PowerSchool Access ID and Password at registration days or back-to-school nights can either pick theirs up at future back-to-school nights (PCHS, PCMS, Platte Purchase) or look for them to come home with the elementary student.
- Click here to create an account and login. Students will be able to login to Student Portal using their school email address and password.
- Click here for an Initial Guide to Parent Portal.
Parent Communication via Siegrist Star Parent Communication - Monthly
Welcome to a new school year! We are so happy to have you at Siegrist. This year both Mrs. Burrows and Dr. Mann are at Siegrist full time! The comprehensive counseling program has many roles and responsibilities, thus we are sharing roles and responsibilities to meet all 605 student needs! (CLICK HERE for role division chart). The school counseling annual calendar overview can be viewed HERE. Lastly, our counselor lessons have been embedded into the Siegrist Specials rotation, meaning your child(ren) will receive a counselor lesson for 50 minutes every 6 days. While one counselor is always teaching the other is meeting individual needs, small group needs, system support or responsive services.
Additionally, this will be our 3rd year with an advisory council solely focused on the school counseling program. The advisory meets two times a year, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. The advisory is made up of school administrators, a school board member, parents, teachers, and this year we’d like to invite a few 5th graders to join us for student input.
Need to contact a counselor? The best way to reach us is via email. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of us if you are needing anything. Our contact information is:
Julia Burrows: 816-858-5977, ext. 1407 or burrowsj@platteco.k12.mo.us
Dr. Mann: 816-858-5977, ext. 1406 or mannl@platteco.k12.mo.us
Siegrist School Attendance:
School attendance is very important! Our school attendance goal is: 90% of students in attendance 90% or higher of the time. Each day daily student attendance is posted outside the office door before you enter, take a look the next time you are at school at our daily attendance rate. Siegrist does have an attendance committee that meets monthly to review individual student attendance. It is our goal to work alongside parents to ensure a high attendance rate for every student. Below is a graph of last year’s average student daily attendance:
The 22-23 yearly average student attendance rate was 92.88%. This is a wonderful attendance rate and we hope to keep attendance high. Thank you for making school a priority and partnering with us to ensure your child is at school. If your student will not be here please call the front office at 816-858-5977.
