Parents and Students,
Spring break is fast approaching, but before reaching the vacation we all need, this is a good time to check with your students about their college qualifications. Have your student log in to your TCC account and review their progress together. Some students may need guidance on how to finish strong after spring break! If you have concerns, contact your child's Pathways teacher.
Reminder to parents to drop off and pick up students in CA. In the morning you leave your student with your car on the way back to Grapevine. It helps traffic to move smoothly. Also, when picking it up, park in front of the empty TCC warehouse. Buses should use the southbound parking lot to turn around. Cars parked in that area create congestion. And it becomes a safety issue with students who walk to their bus, buses that try to turn around and parents in cars that pick up their students. Thank you in advance for your help.
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

On March 4 for the first time ever, we will be offering the SAT to all 11th grade students for free! We have reserved Center Corner here on the TCC campus, and students need to be there and ready to test by 8:30 AM.
Juniors are automatically signed up to test, but they can decline if they want; however, students who have not taken the SAT should definitely give it a try.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
Counseling News:
We are coming up on midterms in the next couple of weeks and this can be a very stressful time for students and teachers alike. Make sure that you're checking in on your students, but not just their grades. Talk to them about their classes, what is going well and what are they struggling with? If you or your student would like to set up a time to meet just send me an email and we'll get something put together!
We'll also be re-running the sophomore independent study report at the end of the nine weeks. The requirements are that the student is passing all of their classes, they currently have a 3.0 or better GPA, and 98% attendance with no unexcused absences. If this is something you think your student might be interested in definitely talk to them about it and help them set goals to get there!
EF News:
Do you want to go on a trip of a lifetime? Next year during Spring Break we will be going to London and Paris and making memories that will last forever! If you'd like more information on the trip reach out to Mr. Cavanagh or Mr. Valentin, but the most important information is that until the end of February there is a promotional offer that knocks $200 off of the cost of the trip! After February that promotion goes away, so if you're considering sending your student take advantage of this!

2020 Census
Beginning in March 2020, students and families in GCISD will have an opportunity to respond and participate in activities related to the 2020 Census. An accurate representation of our student and family population is important for future federal funding implications. Beginning Mid-March, families will receive a letter in the mail with a code for someone to complete the census online or over the phone. It is encouraged to complete the census upon receiving the code so there is not a need for follow up communication or an in-person visit from a census representative. Please be assured that census data is confidential and forms are available in 13 home languages. Below is more information in English and Spanish if you with to learn more:

March 4 | Colleyville Heritage High School | Learning Commons at 6:15 p.m.
The pervasiveness of the internet and the massive amounts of information available — reliable or not — requires information seekers to also become discerners. Acquiring the skill set needed to select, evaluate, and use information and technology appropriately, responsibly, and effectively is more vital now than ever before.
As educators and parents, it is essential that we educate ourselves and young people regarding the necessary responsibilities and safeguards, as well as the profound benefits that come with living in this digital age.
Join us as we review the 5 Competencies of Digital Citizenship designed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) and discuss tools and strategies to ensure we and our students are using critical thinking to be Inclusive, Informed, Engaged, Balanced, and Alert digital citizens.
