Dublin 6th Grade Dance Club
Calling ALL 6th graders!
MORE THAN DANCING, this long-standing program will teach proper social etiquette and respect for others alongside the latest line, popular, and classic dances. Our professional dance instructor, Ron Clark, has guided well over 80,000 students in central Ohio on dance moves and social graces.
WHY JOIN 6th GRADE DANCE CLUB?
In this screen heavy time, Ron believes it’s more important than ever to teach kids social skills such as… how to shake hands, how to treat one another gently and with respect, how to make small talk, and how to make eye contact with others.
He does this in a FUN, casual setting with their friends, through dancing.
All 6th graders who join Dance Club will have the opportunity to attend 4 lessons throughout the month of April + a Final Dance Party on April 30th. All lessons will be held during the week, in the evening, in the gymnasiums of one of our Dublin middle schools.
* This PTO sponsored club will begin taking registrations on FEBRUARY 1st.
* COST will be $40/student… scholarships are available!
* Stay tuned for more details + the registration link

SOS Screener in Health classes on January 18th & 19th
Dublin City Schools takes pride in providing a holistic education to our students, thus mental health and wellness instruction is an important part of our student’s educational experience. Mental health and wellness topics, including depression awareness and suicide prevention, take place during Health class.
The district has chosen to use the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program and Red Flags curricula for the depression awareness and suicide prevention instruction. These programs have proven to be successful at increasing help seeking by students who are concerned about themselves or a friend.
Our goals in participating in these programs are straightforward:
To help our students understand that depression is a treatable illness
To explain that suicide is a preventable tragedy that can occur as a result of untreated
depression
To provide students with information on warning signs of serious depression and
potential suicidality in themselves or a friend
To impress upon youth that they can help themselves or a friend by taking the simple
step of talking to a responsible adult about their concerns
To help students know whom in the school they can turn to for help, if they need it
As part of the health instruction, each child will complete an SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program screening form during their Health class on January 18th & 19th. This screening will help to identify students who may be showing signs of depression. Screenings will be immediately reviewed and student support if needed, will be provided. If indicated, a mental health provider will contact parents to help identify available supports.
* If you wish to have your student participate in this helpful survey, please follow this link to complete the consent form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf0NW_sBHh0bSjEKMcO3vu9KKOJxSMfNudeGglCZgxSoIbZ3g/viewform
If you do not fill this form out, your student will be unable to take the SOS Suicide Prevention screening, but will still participate in the class lesson. If you have any questions about SOS, please let me know or feel free to contact your student’s counselor, who are both copied on this email. Please complete this survey by January 16th.

Ohio State Application Information Night for 8th Grade Parents on Monday, January 23rd
Scheduling for high school can be a challenge for us all! We get input from older students, other parents, the school, and anyone who can help us as we take this next great leap in our student's lives. Looking forward to figuring out what our students might want to do after high school, so that they make the most of their time while in high school, leave parents and students with lots of questions.
Many of our students will be considering going to college after those 4 years of high school, and we have to start thinking about that sooner vs later as they will be applying for schools in just 3 years!
What will help them be successful in getting into the college of their choice? Join us on Monday, January 23rd, from 6:30 to 7:30 in the Grizzell Middle School Commons to listen to Austin Martin and Jessica Romich (a Dublin graduate) from Ohio State's Outreach and Recruitment.
Did my student sign up for the right classes in high school? What other activities will help them stand out when they apply for college?
Bring your questions and let's get further prepared for making these decisions as we are provided another perspective from people who will be looking at those college applications.
