Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
Dear Cape Families,
February is the month when we celebrate and remember those who make our days immeasurably richer. We receive hugs, smiles and hear proud words about recent achievements from our students daily. The joys they share with us are the highlights of our days! The teachers at Cape are to be commended for their dedication to enriching and meeting our students’ academic and social needs. Our support staff members including our paraprofessionals, office staff, cafeteria teams, and custodial crew give willingly to make sure our students, families and teachers are supported in their educational journey. You, as parents, are our partners, constantly offering your support wherever needed. We are all members of the Cape family, and it is that family that ensures fulfillment of our common goal, creating life-long learners.
Each year our students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade participate in the Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) for reading, math, writing and science. The specific dates and tests Cape will administer are included in this newsletter. Please mark your calendars now.
Thanks to all the parents who attended our Student Led Conferences. It was great to see students sharing about their goals and learning at SLC! February continues to be a busy month with Chuck E. Cheese Night, Father-Daughter Dance and Read Across America Week. Please take a minute and look for dates and times. Make sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for reminders of events.
Safety continues to be a focus at Cape Elementary. We appreciate all the parents who walk their tardy students into the front office in the morning. We also thank parents who keep their phone numbers, addresses and email addresses up to date. Remember all communication including emergency communication will now go through School Messenger. We send messages about once a week via phone and email. If you have not received messages that means we do not have your correct information.
We continue to be thankful to lead Cape each day.
Sincerely,
Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

Attendance Matters....Did You Know?
· More than 8 million students are missing so many days of school they are academically at risk. Missing 10% or more of school (excused or unexcused absences) can translate into third graders inability to master reading, sixth graders failing subjects and ninth graders dropping out of school.
· Parents can help with school attendance by reaching to the school social worker, school guidance counselor or school nurse if you are concerned or need help with attendance. Please know you are not alone in ensuring good attendance.
Attendance Matters, and we thank you for all your help in ensuring good attendance.
For additional information and tips on attendance please visit attendanceworks.org
From Our School Nurse
Lice Policy
If your child has lice or has been sent home from school due to lice, they must be accompanied by parent/guardian to the clinic to be re-screened by the clinic assistant or nurse prior to returning to the classroom. Three days is the maximum amount of time excused absence for removal of eggs from hair. Any absence over 3 days will be considered an unexcused absence.
