Ipswich Middle School

Kathy McMahon, Principal

Sean Fitzgerald, Assistant Principal

Our mission is to create a nurturing community where students are encouraged to develop confidence as lifelong learners with the awareness and flexibility necessary to adapt to a changing world. We strive to bring out the best in every student and adult in our learning community.

Happy New Year!

A belated Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to all IMS Families! With the cancellation of school on December 23rd, I was unable to extend these wishes to many of the students and families. Thank you for the continued support of your children and the school through 2022.

The Wednesday before break was the winter solstice. We have turned the corner and are heading back to days of longer daylight hours. Hopefully the new year and the increased daylight brings feelings of optimism and wellbeing.

We look forward to the many educational experiences and social opportunities that these next few months will bring.

School Dances

Exciting news - The Student Leadership Senate is hosting school dances in the coming weeks. Dances are held in the cafeteria and chaperoned by the IMS staff. In addition to dance, students have access to board games and activities. In order to participate, students must be in good standing with academics, attendance, and discipline. A $5.00 donation at the door is appreciated but not required.

Detailed permission slips will be distributed soon and must be signed and returned to attend a dance. Please note the following rules apply:

*Students must arrive on time, 7:00. For safety reasons, students stay until the end of the dance, 9:00. (Unless a parent contacts me 24 hours before the dance to explain extenuating circumstances.)

*Cellphones must be turned off when students arrive and stay off until the end of the dance.

*Drinks, food and gum may not be brought into the dance. Students can buy water and snacks from the concession stand.

*No guests are allowed - only IMS students can participate.

*Rules for behavior and dress code apply.

The first dance is planned for Friday, January 20th, 7-9:00 pm for Grade 8 students only. This is a tentative date while we wait for confirmation from the DJ. Other dates will be announced soon.

Kindness Monday

January 9th is Kindness Monday. The Kindness Club will meet in the 6th grade pod 2:30 - 3:15. All staff and students are encouraged to wear their kindness shirts.

IMS Intramural Volleyball

Registration for the IMS Intramural Volleyball teams are coming soon! Early registration allows us time to create well-balanced teams.

If your student has already played intramural basketball or tennis this school year, no additional fee is required. If this is your student's first intramural sport of the school year, a $50 fee will be required. All sign ups will be done through Family ID and the link and deadline will be posted in the parent newsletter very soon.

Spirit Week

Tissues and Winter Supplies

It is the season of colds and flu. We are in need of tissues and disinfecting wipes for the classrooms. If you are able, we would appreciate donations.

Attendance Reminder

Please assist us with proper attendance procedures. If your child will not be in school or will be tardy or dismissed, a parent/guardian must notify us with an email or call to the main office (978-356-3535) by 8:00 am to report this information. If a call is not received, Mrs. Henderson or Mrs. Reed will call your home to confirm the absence. This is very time consuming for them and takes them away from their other responsibilities. Please help us by following the proper attendance procedures.

No Place for Hate

This No Place for Hate canvas was created by Mrs. Stewart. Students and staff are welcome to stop by the office and sign it any time.
