Counselor's Corner - Parent Edition
Hello Parents! This month the counselors will release their first “Counselor’s Corner – Parent Edition” session. These will be pre-recorded sessions that provide support, resources, information, and act as a forum to answer questions. The sessions will be posted on our LHS website and sent out in the Parent Newsletter for you to view on demand. Prior to each session, parents can submit questions via this form and we will answer them during our next session.
Our first session in the Counselor’s Corner series will be our Web Walkthrough and will be released the week of November 15th. We will go over the Landstown Website, Tips & Tricks of ParentVUE, and how to help your student navigate Classlink and Schoology. Questions can be submitted here prior to the session and will be answered during that same session.”

Student-Athletes Testing Information
As was shared with you recently, all student-athletes who intend to participate in winter sports activities (or athletic conditioning that requires a physical for participation) must submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, submit proof of a positive COVID-19 test within the previous 90 days, or submit to weekly testing.
Therefore:
- Vaccinated athletes must present proof of vaccination to the school nurse as soon as Nov. 1, but no later than Wednesday, Nov. 10.
- Unvaccinated athletes who have had COVID within the last 90 days must submit documentation from their medical provider -- noting the date when they were cleared to return to school -- to their school nurse as soon as Nov. 1, but no later than Wednesday, Nov. 10.
- All other unvaccinated athletes must participate in weekly testing at their home school. Parental/guardian consent and registration with Mako Medical Laboratories (MML) for testing are required. Attached to this message are the consent forms and the unique link to complete the required additional information for your child. These forms may be submitted as soon as Nov. 1, but are due back to the school nurse by Wednesday, Nov. 10.
The testing process begins Monday, November 15, 202 from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM in our clinic. Athletes absent on the assigned weekly test date for their schools will be required to undergo testing on Wednesday at one of the make-up site locations to remain eligible to participate in practices or contests for the remainder of the week. Transportation will not be provided to the make-up sites. Please note, Landstown High is a make-up testing site and testing will occur from 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM.
Mako will be using a PCR test to detect COVID-19. There is no cost to you or the division for this testing program. Parents/legal guardians may find additional information on Mako Medical Laboratories at https://makomedical.com/.
The process is:
- An individual “shallow nasal swab” is taken by Mako or division-trained staff.
- All swabs to be tested by Mako Medical Labs, with results available within 24-48 hours.
- While awaiting results, all student-athletes may continue to participate.
- If any student-athlete is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, then he/she should stay home until test results are back.
This testing process is designed to be an additional layer of our mitigation strategy for keeping our students, staff and their families as safe as possible.
For individual questions, please contact our School Nurse, Ms. Shelly McGaha at 648-5508 or our Student Activities Coordinator, Mr. David Siock, at 757-648-5521.
Thank you for your continued support of Landstown High School.

Fast Food/Outside Food Deliveries Update
Our security desk was overwhelmed throughout the day; especially during lunch blocks with deliveries from restaurants, food delivery companies and family members that we had to put in place outside food delivery restrictions. As a result, students cannot receive deliveries of outside food (e.g. fast food). Students who bring their lunches to school are allowed to eat in their assigned lunch spaces. We will never not allow a student to eat their food if the delivery is completed but the student will have to eat in main office or pick it up at the end of the day.
Thank you for understanding!
