PBIS at Home Survey
Hello South Parents! We are thrilled that you are seeking tips and common language to use at home that align with PBIS at school. We will be offering round table discussions during our parent teacher conference days, and will share the information provided with anyone who is unable to attend. As we plan, we would like to hear from you for what areas you would like the most help with! This short form will provide us with information to prepare for the round table discussions. Thank you for the feedback!

Serve the City - THANK YOU
Thank you so much to Harvest Bible Chapel "Serve The City" volunteers who dug up sod, planted native plants and painted paw prints at our school. Also, thank you to Jennifer Oliver for designing our planting area for the front of our school and side of the school. The kindness and time you served our school is greatly appreciated!
Pumpkin Contest
The South staff is participating in a pumpkin decorating challenge this year! Pumpkins are decorated with our theme of the year; "Focus on the Future!" Pumpkins will be in the front entrance starting Tuesday, Oct.25 through Monday Oct. 31st. If you happen to come into the school, please ask the office for a ticket to vote and place your vote for your favorite pumpkin!

Trunk or Treat
On Sunday, October 30th, South Elementary is hosting our first annual Trunk-or-Treat in the South Elementary School Parking Lot. If you are interested in decorating your trunk and bringing candy to pass out, please sign up at https://forms.gle/5Pi5jPzumRFr1ajy7 . At this time we only need a few more families to sign up! Prizes will be handed out for best decorated trunk, most creative trunk, and silliest trunk! Trunk or Treat will go from 10-11:00 AM, followed by Glowby the Bubbler from 11-12:00 PM, on the playground. Bring the whole family to this fun event! Please note that in the event of inclement weather or not enough families signed up to decorate their trunks and pass out candy, all activities will be cancelled.
Halloween Parade
The Halloween parade will take place along the sidewalks in front of the school building at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, October 31st. We ask that parents and guests wait outside on the grass along the sidewalks anywhere in front of the building (leave the sidewalk open for the students to walk down). In the event of inclement weather, the parade will be cancelled and we will send out an email blast.
Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Community members are welcome to enjoy a Thanksgiving Day dinner that will include a traditional turkey dinner including stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and dessert. This will be held on Wednesday, November 23 from 11:00-2:00 PM at The Salvation Army of McHenry County Crystal Lake Corps Community Center, 290 West Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake. All are welcome. Due to continued Covid-19 concerns, we will be offering take-home meal box for all attendees. Unfortunately we cannot offer dine-in options this year.
Volunteers are needed to make this event a huge success for our community. For more information or to volunteer call 815-455-2769.
Community Harvest Food Drive
South is proud to support the Crystal Lake Food Pantry and looks forward to participating in the 32nd annual Community Harvest Food Drive. Last year, District 47 schools donated 7,723 pounds of food, which equates to nearly 6,500 meals! See this year’s flyer for most wanted food and household items. Monetary donations are also appreciated; checks can be made payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. Donations will be accepted until Friday, November 18.
Halloween Information
Just a reminder that costumes should be appropriate for the school setting, “G” rated. Please refrain from fake weapons, scary costumes, and/or inappropriate costumes that may cause fear for children. Each student needs to be able to get dressed alone or with minimal assistance. Aerosol hair colorings and make-up should be left at home. Classroom celebrations will be held immediately after the parade or from 2:45-3:20 PM. Unfortunately, we do not have room to invite parents/siblings and other guests into the classroom for this portion of the day. Only the set volunteers will be allowed in to assist.
