Klamath Basin Potato Festival - The Queen Court
Two Klamath Falls City Schools students will be participating in this year’s 85th annual Klamath Basin Potato Festival.
Klamath Union High School’s Jordyn Bowers and EagleRidge High School’s LeOna Sparrow Santos will be representing KFCS at 4 p.m. next Saturday, October 9 at the Merrill Civic Center for the Potato Festival Queen Coronation and Talent Show.

Miss Klamath Union - Jordyn Bowers
Bowers is a senior this year at Klamath Union. Born and raised in Klamath Falls, she is the daughter of John and Patricia Bowers, and sister to Helena Boggs. Upon graduating at KU, Bowers plans on enlisting in the military and wants to earn a degree in criminology.
Notable accomplishments
- President of the yearbook
- Leader in the Chamber and Acapella Choir
- Honor roll student since freshman year and member of the National Honors Society
- Enrolled in honors and dual credit classes through SOU, OIT and KCC
Miss EagleRidge – LeOna Sparrow Santos
Santos was born in Houston, Texas and was raised in Klamath Falls. She is the daughter of Marta Mixell and Walter Santos, and is the second oldest of four siblings.
Santos has been a suicide awareness advocate for the last four years with the You Matter Movement, and speaks publicly about her experience with mental health. Santos has been open and honest about how she worked through her struggles with suicide. She is Incan Peruvian and Cherokee descendant, and grew up learning about Jingle dancing. She now dances for the sick and for her ancestors who couldn’t dance for themselves.
Santos struggled with many bullies as she grew up, which developed anxiety and suicidal thoughts. Makeup became her way of communicating with her family and helped grow her self-confidence.
She plans to attend the College of Cosmetology in Klamath Falls to get her Esthetician License. From there, she wants to get a Cosmetic Chemistry degree at The University of Oregon.

- Coaches and is a referee in local youth sports
- Maintains a 4.0 GPA
- At 9 years old, she became the youngest permanent worker at the Badger Run Rehab Center
- Earned over 1,000 hours of community service
- Received two gold presidential awards for outstanding work in her community
One of the responsibilities of the candidates is to sell raffle tickets at $2 apiece to raise money for the Potato Festival. The grand prize of the raffle is $500 in cash and then a laundry list of other prizes. If you are interested in supporting a candidate in her ticket sales, you can Zelle her money using KBPFtickets@gmail.com, confirm the sales are going to Melissa (she is the accountant for Potato Festival), and enter who you are supporting ie: Miss Klamath Union and your name and phone number so the candidate can fill out your ticket stub. You can also send money through Venmo if you enter KBPF and the confirmation code of 0652. Once again, enter the candidate’s name or school along with your name and phone number.
Klamath Works at Klamath Learning Center
Klamath Learning Center and Klamath Works will continue to have a partnership into the 2022-2023 school year.
This past Tuesday, Klamath Works visited Klamath Learning Center for an orientation for students. Klamath Works will be providing life skills classes once again to KLC students this year.
Klamath Works will be at KLC every Tuesday and Thursday at two different time periods. It will first visit from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and then continue from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.

The first ever Klamath Falls Into Fitness Challenge will start this October and November. We’ll be signing up as an organization team to compete in two areas:

NFL, MLB Trainer Todd Durkin Coming to Pel Court
Join Healthy Klamath and Klamath Falls City Schools in welcoming Todd Durkin to our community. Todd will be delivering an inspirational keynote speech, leading a community workout, and sticking around for a brief meet and greet at 5:30 p.m. Friday, October 28 at Pel Court.
Todd Durkin is a world-class coach, trainer, author, and speaker who changes lives every single day.
He is the founder of Fitness Quest 10 in Scripps Ranch, San Diego. He trains dozens of current NFL and MLB athletes, including Drew Brees, Golden Tate, Zach Ertz, Darren Sproles, and a host of other active players. His long client lists include, LaDainian Tomlinson, Reggie Bush, Aaron Rodgers, Carson Palmer, and Tony Gwynn Jr. amongst others.
Todd was a finalist on the primetime, network show NBC STRONG, which is now streaming on Netflix.
He is the past recipient of the Jack LaLanne Award for lifetime achievement in the fitness field, amongst many other accolades. His 2 books, The IMPACT Body Plan and the WOW BOOK have changed thousands of lives. His 3rd book, GET YOUR MIND RIGHT, just came out in June 2020! It is a MUST read!
Todd Durkin is popular on social media and delivers daily messages on Instagram and Facebook. His podcast, the Todd Durkin IMPACT Show, is designed to motivate and inspire anyone looking to create more IMPACT in their life.
