Our Tweetcher for the Week of 10/8 was.....SUSAN POTTER
We especially like how Susan's tweets showcase the great learning happening in her classroom and that kindergarten isn't just about playtime and naps!
Click here to see a great example of a recent Tweet that showed her students learning about physics concepts during a unit on Transportation.
Our Tweetcher for the Week of 10/15 is.....Bethany Pierce
We are super proud of Ms. Pierce for taking a chance and it paying off for her and her students. When we shared her exciting news on the district Facebook page, it reached over 9,000 people!
We also enjoy the way that Bethany has utilized Twitter this year. We enjoy seeing her hashtags of #LearnLikeACardinal, #CareLikeACardinal and #DanceLikeACardinal.
*BROWN BAG TAILGATE-Don't make dinner this Friday, October 19th! Instead come out to Cardinal Stadium and support the CHS Junior Class at their annual Brown Bag Tailgate. This annual event supports the 2019 Prom. See flyer at the end of the newsletter for more details.
*SKILLS USA TRIVIA NIGHT-SkillsUSA wants YOU! Form a team of 10 people and join them for their annual Monster Bowl Trivia Night. How fun would it be if every building had a team? This event is always a ton of fun and benefits Clinton Technical School students. The flyer can be found at the bottom of the newsletter.
*CARDINAL HOLIDAY MART-Clinton Intermediate School will hold their 2nd annual Cardinal Holiday Mart on November 17th from 9:00-2:00 at Clinton Intermediate School. *Tell us what you do in the CSD, how long you have been here and why you enjoy being a Cardinal.
I teach Theatre, Technical Theatre, Speech and Debate, and ACT Prep at CHS. I am also the Drama Club sponsor, and Speech and Debate coach. I get the honor of directing our theatre productions, and taking my speech team to tournaments.
This is my second year in the Clinton School District, and I still love it as much as I did last year. I’ve often heard that Cardinals symbolize devotion, passion, and hope. This is definitely an accurate way to describe the CSD. The teachers and administration I get to work with everyday are completely devoted to serving the students and the Clinton community. They are passionate about their subjects, and truly care about making a difference in their students’ lives. The Clinton community itself inspires hope. In the short time I have been here, I have seen this community rally together after tragedies to surround each other with comfort, security, and love. People here want to make a difference and I want to too.
If getting to be a Cardinal means being devoted to a community, having a passion for students and a content area, and trying to inspire hope in others, then sign me up!
*Tell us where you are from and a little bit about your family.
I am originally from the Columbia/Fulton area. Most of my family and friends are still in Columbia and Fulton so I try to go back as often as I can to see them. My mom and step dad moved to the Lake of the Ozarks about a year ago. I got to spend a lot of the summer with my mom, which was amazing. Family is very important to me.
In my own little household I have two cats, Baby and Puck, and one little dog, Pippa. I absolutely adore my little furry family, and cannot imagine a life without them. My students love to see the pictures of my pets hanging up in my classroom.
*What was your first job? What did you like/dislike about it?
My first official job “with an actual paycheck” was when I was 19. I worked as a caregiver for a young girl with special needs during the summer between my freshman and sophomore year at college. I loved getting to help her experience new things, and take her to fun places she had never been before. It taught me so much about patience and empathy while I got to be with her. I liked being a caregiver so much that I actually did it for about 13 years before becoming a teacher.
The thing I didn’t like as much was the documentation and the paperwork. It took a lot of time to do it correctly and accurately.
*Tell us 2 things on your bucket list, and 1 thing you've recently been able to cross of your list!
One giant thing on my bucket list is to go to the Finnish Lapland, and stay in a glass topped igloo and see the Northern lights. I think that would be an amazing sight to see, plus that’s where Santa lives!
Another thing on my bucket list is to one day be involved in a production at the Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock, MO. I love that there is a thriving, historical theatre in the middle of a town with a population of less than 60 people.
This isn’t too recent, but one of the major things I marked off my bucket list was a few years ago when I got to go to Kona, Hawaii, and snorkeled with wild dolphins. I will forever be on the search for beautiful, turquoise water.
*What are 3 things people would be surprised to know about you?
*I love 90’s era professional wrestling. The Ultimate Warrior will forever be my favorite wrestler. I love seeing the melodramatic, bigger than life characters fight each other, “it’s fake, that’s why I like it”. It’s like a modern day take on medieval morality plays. Good always beats evil in the end.
*I am actually an outdoorsy girl when I get the opportunity. I like being out in nature, especially if I have my camera or I’m walking my dog. One of my favorite happy places is being out in the middle of the Lake of the Ozarks on a boat.
*I was a cheerleader for 6 years, 2 in junior high, and 4 in high school. I was even an All-American Cheer qualifier. For some reason people are really surprised by that. They can see me in band, drama, and choir, but not cheerleading.
