Good Things Happening
It is a great time to be a Scarlet!
Our district's first Student Spotlight was at last week's board meeting and Olivia Koeneman was the first recipient! Olivia is a senior who maintains a healthy balance between academics, athletics, and activities. She has gone above and beyond for her school community by creating Mental Health Connections, a student-run club focused on supporting mental health. This group is meeting monthly, and is selling t-shirt to raise money for The Reach and their work with the mental health needs of our teens.
National Honor Society inducted 44 new members on November 14th.
Our football team is returning to the state championship game! They will play Elk River on Saturday, at 4:00pm at U.S. Bank Stadium. Let's fill the Bank with a sea of Scarlets!
An email was sent to Mankato West families with information about the fan bus to US Bank Stadium on Saturday, December 3rd for the State Championship Football Game. Registration will close at 4PM on Thursday, December 1st. The cost is $10 per student to ride the bus and tickets to the game are $10. Students must show their game ticket to the supervisor before boarding the bus to US Bank.
Our Holiday Festival of Music Concert is this week. This concert highlights our top musicians in band, choir and orchestra.
Progress is being made on our student-run coffee shop! We are grateful for the community partners who have supported this project, ISG, Webb Construction, and Educare. It looks like we could be opening at the end of the semester. Stay tuned!
Any student interested in participating in the National History Day competition this year should plan to attend a meeting at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, December 8th in Room 109. If you are interested in signing up for the activity, but are unable to attend the meeting, please visit with Mr. Moore.

Grade Check #4 for Semester 1
Thursday, December 1, grades will be up to date in Infinite Campus. Please log in to check on your student's progress. When looking at the grades on Thursday, think of them as "if the semester ended today, this would be the grade going on the transcript."
Reminders About Make-Up Work, Retakes, and the End of the Semester
MAKE-UP WORK
When a student is absent from school, they are generally given two (2) days for each day of excused absence to complete their make-up work. Teachers should work with students to make arrangements for make-up work and establish reasonable timelines and deadlines. If the absence is unexcused, the teacher has the option to allow no credit for the assignment or test.
Retakes/Revisions for Summative Work
Students have TWO DAYS after they receive feedback on their summative assessment to request a retake.
Students must complete a retake form and complete relearning work prior to their retake (or revision) date.
Students have FIVE DAYS to complete the retake
- Wednesday, January 18, is the last day of classes for first semester for all students earning a passing grade for the semester.
- January 19 and 20 is set aside for students who are in danger of failing the semester. Class periods will be 80 minutes long, and will provide students with one last opportunity to demonstrate their learning in an effort to earn a passing grade.
2nd Semester Drop/Add Courses
- Students need to carry a minimum of 6 classes.
- If a student drops a course which puts them with fewer than 6 classes, they will receive a WF (withdraw fail) on their transcript which will count as an F when computing GPA.
- Adding a course is only permitted the first two days of the semester (provided there is room in the course).
- If the student chooses to drop a class, they may do so during the first two weeks of the semester and will receive a W (withdraw) on their transcript, which has no penalty to their GPA.
- If the student chooses to drop a class after the first two weeks, they will receive a WF (withdraw fail) on their transcript.

We want to create a yearbook that captures all the memories of your student's senior year. We are in the process of gathering all the senior photos to use in the senior section of the book. Please submit your picture by Monday, February 27th.
We ask you submit your photo digitally by clicking here. Read the photo instructions if you have any questions regarding the submission process. The Yearbook staff needs your Then and Now Pictures!
