Fryelands Falcon Flyer
April 29, 2021
From the Principal
Dear Fryelands Families,
We have created a Parent Input Google Form for next school year. Below is the link to the form, all responses are due by Friday, May 14th.
If you have specific comments regarding your child’s placement for next year, please fill out the form. We also have paper copies in the office if you prefer filling it out on paper rather than online. The staff and I value parent input, but please note that we are not able to accommodate your request for a specific teacher. Your child’s current teacher, along with our school team, will balance next year’s classes by gender, abilities, behaviors, and many other factors.
I wish I could share more information about what school will look like next fall, but in these changing times, we just don’t have that information yet. Fingers crossed for a “more normal” school year this fall. If you know of neighbors or friends returning to Fryelands from home schooling or other learning places, all families will need to register again if they are not here this year. This is the same process as our incoming kindergarten students.
You may register online by going to https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/register-for-school.
Next week, May 3-7, we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week.
Teachers are in this profession to serve children and to change lives every day. They do this by believing in their students and by encouraging them to work hard and dream big. We have fantastic teachers at Fryelands, who make a real difference in our community.
Thank you to ALL teachers everywhere!!!
Thank you....
We appreciate you....
Your sacrifices don't go unnoticed....
You truly care about your students....
You're making a huge impact....
If you would like to show our teachers your appreciation for what they do each day for our students, they would love to receive cards, letters, or drawings from our students and families. Words of encouragement, appreciation, and gratefulness are always good to hear.
Fryelands Reading Challenge is starting April 19th-May 25th
The Paper Bookshelf Needs Books...here’s what you do...
Read a Book
Color in a Book Template
Write the Author & Title
Turn it into Mrs. Capone (in our library)
It will then be put on the shelf for all to see
Receive an entry into a drawing for a BIG prize at the end of May
Every book adds another entry into the drawing for each student
Our #1 responsibility is to provide a strong education for your student, but we are equally engaged in supporting the nutritional, social/emotional, mental health and other needs of our students and families. Please reach out to your child's teacher, our office, or any other Fryelands staff member for help. We have many resources we would love to share with you to support you through difficult times.
Our Fryelands Falcon staff is sending you lots of love and encouragement. Thank you for stepping up and ensuring your students stay engaged with learning. We appreciate you and your partnership!
Take care and stay safe,
Jeff Presley

Monroe School District COVID-19 Writing Contest
Monroe School District students,
What has school been like during the COVID-19 pandemic? The Monroe community wants to hear from YOU!
Each year, the Monroe School District mails a community newsletter to all homes within the district’s boundaries (see past editions here). That’s over 16,000 mailboxes! The purpose of these newsletters is to share information and positive news about our schools, students and staff with all community members.
This past year of school hasn’t been like any other before and we want to share YOUR first-hand accounts of what it has been like as students in the next edition of our community newsletter. Many of our community members don’t have students in school and are very curious what school has been like for students this past year. Therefore, we are inviting all students to submit a writing piece that may be featured both in the printed newsletter and on our website. At least three entries will be selected, including one from the elementary (K-5), middle (6-8), and high school (9-12) grade levels.
Writing Prompt:
You are living through history. Future historians may look back on the journals, essays and poetry that ordinary people, like you, are creating now to tell the story of life during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Imagine 100 years have passed and it’s now the year 2121. Historians are looking back on a piece of your writing that describes what school was like during the pandemic of 2020-21. In an essay, journal entry, poem, news article or any form of creative writing, describe what school has been like for you as a student during the pandemic.
Writing submissions will only be accepted from students who are currently enrolled in the Monroe School District. Submissions must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. Not all submissions will be featured in the community newsletter and/or district website. If you have questions, please email communications@monroe.wednet.edu.

Thank you to the Sky Valley Food Bank for packing weekend food bags for students at Fryelands. There will be a limited number of Weekend Food Bags, please ask your student to look for them. Free Meals Continue for ALL Students!
Did you know we are still offering FREE meals for all students, even when they are attending in-person?! Elementary students may take home a free sack lunch at the end of each day they are on campus (A cohort is offered a lunch to take home for that day, B cohort is offered a take home lunch to eat for the next day).
Meals for students in grades 6-12 are a combination of in school service and take-home meals. On the days they attend in-person, students are offered a free sack lunch to be eaten at school. They also have an opportunity to receive free take-home meals at the end of their day, which includes breakfasts and lunches for the days that they will be remote learning.
For those students not attending school in-person, curbside pickup will continue to be available at Hidden River Middle School and Park Place Middle School daily from 11:30-12:00 p.m. through April 21st. We will then transition to providing 5-day meal kits only for those students not attending in-person. More information on pre-ordering these meal kits can be found here.
We know that children learn better when they have had a meal. Please encourage your student to take advantage of the free meals both in school and take-home! We will continue offering free meals through the rest of this school year.
