Winter Reading Challenge
Please take pictures and send them to Mrs. Willis via email at willism@casdschools.org. We will feature these pictures in our upcoming Monday Morning Messages as well as on our social media accounts. We will be printing out pictures as well to display on our hallway bulletin boards.
If you have any questions about the Winter Reading Challenge, please reach out to our reading specialist, Mrs. DiSands at disandsd@casdschools.org. We can't wait to see your fun reading photos! Happy Reading!
Report Card Update
Report cards were mailed out on Monday, December 21st. Please be mindful that there may be errors in the attendance reporting section of the report card. We are working to fix that and there is no need to contact the school about this matter. Additionally, please be aware that you may see "N/A" in many categories on the report card. This simply means that your child was unable to be fairly assessed in those individual categories. This inability to assess could be due to a number of factors including but not limited to technical difficulties and lack of participation in virtual learning.
Afternoon Attendance
This is an important reminder that afternoon attendance is required. Students are obligated to attend their related arts classes each day in addition to their small group instruction time provided to them by their classroom teacher, reading specialist and/or special education teacher.

Science Fair
The 2020-2021 Science Fair is getting ready to begin!
This year will seem a little different. Because of the pandemic, we will be having a virtual science fair. All students(K-5th) are invited to complete an independent/at-home science fair project to be entered in the Elementary Science Fair. Student scan work by themselves or in a team of up to three students from the same grade level.
Mrs. Billman will be available to help the students with their project ideas or problems. The first step is simple. We are asking that you have your child accept the invitation to our Canvas page. From there they will fill out an interest form, with an idea of what project they would like to investigate. The deadline for applications is December16th. You can contact Mrs. Billman at billmanj@casdschools.org and the sign up form is on the Science Fair canvas page!
Please see the video below for more parent information and for a fun video to get students excited!

Return to School Information
Although a date has not yet been determined for a return to school, the Coatesville Area School District administration and staff are eager to have all students return to in-person instruction. When we return to in-person hybrid instruction all schools, including elementary schools, will be on a brick-and-mortar schedule. This schedule will reflect the schedule the students will participate in throughout the course of a normal school day.
To prepare for a transition to a brick-and-mortar schedule all elementary schools will shift to the new schedule one week prior to students returning to school on a hybrid model. Parents, staff, and teachers will be notified prior to a return to hybrid instruction. This will provide teachers and students time to adjust to the new schedule. This date has not been determined, but it will be communicated in a timely manner to ensure parents, students, and teachers can adjust to the new hybrid schedule.
Medical Reminders
- All Kindergarten students need a physical by their doctor by January 2021.
- All Kindergarten, 1st and 3rd graders need a dental exam completed by January 2021.

Return to School - Important Information
When we return to school, please refer to this important information.
COHORT INFORMATION
All students who have selected for in-person instruction have been assigned to one of three cohort groups. You may send your child to school on their specific cohort days ONLY. If you send your child to school on the wrong cohort day, your child must be picked up as we will NOT accommodate students on non-cohort days. Your help in this matter will allow us to abide by the guidelines set forth by the Center for Disease Control, The Chester County Health Department and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Please be sure to check the cohort calendar attached to this message to ensure you are sending your child to school on the appropriate day.
As a reminder, students who opted to remain virtual, will continue virtually.
On non-cohort days, students must attend school virtually. Individual grade level schedules were sent via email on Wednesday. If you did not receive the new schedule, please check your child’s teacher’s Canvas page as the new schedules have been posted there as well. We have also posted all grade level schedules to our East Fallowfield website.
RETURN TO SCHOOL
Wellness Checks: We are asking for your cooperation in ensuring your child is healthy before coming into school on their designated days. If your child is sick, please keep your child home, allow them to access their learning virtually, and send an email to efattendance@casdschools.org to inform them of this change. Please refer to the Wellness Checklist attached to this email.
Laptops/Materials: Students are responsible for bringing their fully charged laptop to and from school on the days they are in-person. Folders and Math books that were given out in the student resource bags should return to school with your child and will be stored in the classroom.
Clothing/Dress: As a reminder, we are no longer requiring school uniforms. We are asking that students dress appropriate for the weather as we will be going outside each day for recess and mask breaks. It is also necessary for each child to come to school with a mask.
TRANSPORTATION
Bus information was sent out via email this week. We also mailed out letters to families on Tuesday. If you did not receive your information you can contact your child’s teacher or the main office. If you have any issues with your transportation information, please contact the transportation department directly at schoolbus@casdschools.org.
Please remember that the first week of school can delay arrival times home in the afternoon. Please allow a 15-20 minute window from the assigned arrival time before calling the school to inquire.
DROP OFF/PICK UP PROCEDURE
The Student Drop-off and Pick-up area will remain behind the building this year. If you are picking your student up, you must provide the office with a note or an email prior to 2:00 pm. We will otherwise put your child on their assigned school bus without this documentation.
First Day Drop Off: Our school day runs from 9:15 am -3:45 pm. If you are dropping your student off to school you must do so behind the building. Doors will open at 9:15 am. Parents will not be able to walk their students into the building. Thank you for your understanding.
COMMUNICATION
It is paramount that we have the correct contact information for families on file. If you have changed your phone number of email address, please notify Ms. Bernardo at bernardoj@casdschools.org. Please be sure to check your email frequently as the school and district will be sending important information. The Monday Morning Messages contain a lot of information relating to school news and events.
As we transition from 100% virtual to a hybrid model I ask for your patience and understanding. We promise to do the same. This will be another journey we will navigate together to ensure our students are safe while receiving their education.

Meals for the fall will be distributed from three locations:
- Coatesville Area Senior High School (1445 E. Lincoln Hwy, Coatesville, PA 19320), between 10:30 AM-12:30 PM and 3:30 PM-4:30 PM
- Scott (800 Olive Street, Coatesville, PA 19320 - at Sterling Street entrance), between 10:30 AM-12:30 PM

Meals MUST be pre-ordered. Please use the following link to sign up: http://forms.gle/deSmH3kDZPsQgDDu6
Fall meal distribution will begin Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Once you have pre-ordered, please pick up your student's meals at the school you selected, during the noted distribution hours, on the selected dates.
Please note: if someone is picking up meals for you, please give them the correct "Parent Name" - they will not be able to pick up if your name is not on the list.
All enrolled students are encouraged to sign up! Participation of all CASD students, regardless of income, helps support the food services program. Thank you for partnering with us to make sure our students get the nutrition they need to make this school year a success!
Adopt-a-Teacher is back! Over the last four years this program has encouraged families to engage in our school community and organized this fun experience for both families and teachers and staff here at Coatesville Area School District.
Ready to Adopt? That’s great! To read up on how you can adopt today - click here to read about the process. If you are new to this program and would like to learn more about how you can adopt, please head over to the Adopt-a-Coatesville Teacher Facebook Page or read more about this program on their new website. If you have any questions about the program you can also email them at adopt-a-teacher@outlook.com.
It is so important to encourage the amazing individuals who shape our kids’ lives. When you adopt a Coatesville teacher and/or staff member, not only are you positively impacting those who are on the front-line every day educating our kids, you are also sewing into the life of our community.
