Helping Our Seniors Stay on Track to Graduation
Seniors at risk of failing a course for the semester due to missing assignments will attend a grade recovery event in the Library on either Tuesday, January 22 or Thursday, January 24. This will take place from 7:20 to 10:20. Passes including the student's name and his or her assigned date (1/22 or 1/24) were placed in 1B teacher mailboxes. Please be sure to check your box to see if any of your 1B seniors are included in this event. Students should bring their belongings with them. For questions, please contact T'na Bell or Allison Haley.
I Make a Difference
From Tony Kaup
I am proud to present the “I Make a Difference” award to a fellow colleague, an exceptional educator, and a really nice guy – Rey Manlunas. Rey is an invaluable member of the Math department, working late hours developing the best presentations for his students, or tweaking a worksheet with his technical skills in order to present the material to his students in just the right way! He is always available to his students during OneLunch or after school to assist them, always with a smile on his face. And he never turns down another teacher’s request (which is frequently mine) for help with a computer or software issue. On top of all of that, he (and his wife) make some of the best lumpia around! The Landstown High School community, and the Math department in particular, is a better place because of Rey’s contributions. Congratulations, and THANKS to a worthy recipient of the “I Make a Difference” award – Rey Manlunas.

Calendar Shift
Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) will use February 18 (Presidents’ Day) to make up instructional time lost during Hurricane Michael. Given the length of time out of school thus far, the division will also extend the first semester from Monday, January 28 to Thursday, January 31. Consequently, the division’s previously scheduled staff day/virtual learning day will now be Friday, February 1 and the second semester will begin Monday, February 4.
Report cards for the second nine weeks/first semester will be sent home Monday, February 11.
The 2018-2019 school calendar has been updated to include the makeup day and semester changes. The updated calendar is available on www.vbschools.com. Updated 2018-19 Calendar
