Happy November!

Happy November NACP Dolphins! It seems like it was only yesterday that we began this amazing journey for another successful school year! The month of November often reminds us of wonderful times spent with family and friends. We are also reminded of the many reasons we are to be thankful. Despite the numerous challenges we have all faced during the past year and a half, we look forward, with hopeful hearts, to a bright and better future for our students, their families and our entire NACP Family! HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

National Hispanic Heritage Month

On October 11th, our families from NACP & our sister school in Los Angeles, NASA, joined a ZOOM meeting where they shared their heritage projects with other parents! We learned about Mexico, Guatemala, USA, Honduras, & EL Salvador. We heard different languages during our meeting like Spanish, English, K'iche, & Zapoteco. Our families dressed up in their traditional attire, played music for us, & even did some artistic and cultural face art!

It was so exciting coming together & sharing our childhood games with eachother!

The projects were turned in and we decorated our gym with all of their wonderful posters!

Classes then came down and we had a very special surprise for them........ a live mariachi band!!! Our students had such a great time listening to the music and being part of the celebration. They sang, they danced, & they were so proud to show their family posters to their friends!

Here are some of our parent presentations! Click on the slides below!

Recognizing Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Our Parent Center held several workshops with topics in a variety of different types of cancers in both men an women. Studies have shown that many cancers are preventable with early detection. As we celebrated National Hispanic Heritage Month, we wanted to outreach to our Latino community, who are considered high risk of such cancers. Early detection is key and knowing where to go, what to do, and the medical coverage available to the community is essential to start these exams.

Our Parent Center distributed free T-shirts promoting awareness for all of the parents who joined us for our first class where we discussed Breast Cancer. Pink ribbon pins were also sent home to all of our families along with an informational flyer.

Our health is very important! When a parent is going through a difficult situation, it takes a toll in a child's mental health. We need to make the effort to be in our child's life as long as possible. These small steps will help us in the long-run!

We look forward to seeing you in our future classes!

CELEBRATING RED RIBBON WEEK!

The mission of the Red Ribbon Campaign is to present a unified and visible commitment towards the creation of a Drug-Free America. Red Ribbon Week is designed to create critical mass, which is necessary to reduce destructive social norms/behaviors and promote positive social norms/behaviors.

Students received a special item each day of the week. Red tickets were distributed to students who were " Caught being Kind " . We put all of the red tickets in a tumble wheel and called 29 winners. Prizes included, backpacks, pencil cases with school supplies, books, notebooks, & a promotional T-shirt.
