Ferson Creek eNews

March 25, 2022

From the Principal, Kristy McKnight

It's hard to believe that we are already at Spring Break! I hope you have a wonderful, restful, much needed week. This week's eNews is full of many new things as we begin the final 8 weeks of the school year when we return. There are lots of upcoming events as well as summer opportunities!

Additionally, it's the time of year where we start making plans for next school year. With that, if you would like to provide feedback on your child's learning environment for the 2022-2023 school year, now is the time. Please see this letter which outlines the framework for this feedback. Please note that the deadline to submit feedback is Friday, April 15th.

Breakfast Update

When we return from spring break, breakfast will be served to students in the morning when they arrive at school. We will no longer be sending a breakfast home with students at the end of the day for the following morning. Breakfast will still be free to all students for the remainder of this school year. Students do not need to order breakfast ahead of time. We encourage students to arrive at school by 7:45 am if they will be eating breakfast on that day. Students will pick up breakfast in the cafeteria and take to the classroom to eat. The last day we will send breakfast home at the end of the day is Thursday, March 24.

Equity Audit Parent Focus Groups

As part of the district’s equity audit, parent 1 hour focus groups will be held across the district via Zoom during the month of April to give families an opportunity to share their thoughts on our district’s strengths, areas of need, and long-term opportunities for providing the best educational experience for all students. Focus groups will be constructed and led by our partners in the equity audit process- the Consortium for Educational Change (CEC). There will be morning and evening focus groups available for parents. Every school’s goal is to have 15 families agree to participate in a focus group. During the week of March 21st, a member of our school staff will begin calling parents from a document with families’ names listed in random order to invite prospective participants to be part of a focus group and at that time will share specific dates and times. All parents are welcome to email your own written responses to the focus group questions to CEC should you not be selected to participate in a focus group but desire to share your opinions (A list of the focus group questions and a place for submitting your answers to them will be posted on the district website beginning April 4th). We thank you for your commitment to equity in education, and we are excited about this next step in gathering the voices of our district so that we can create a comprehensive plan for moving forward. If you have any questions regarding the focus group process, please contact our Director of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Dr. Tracy Taylor, at tracy.taylor@d303.org.

Ferson Creek Talent Show

We are excited to be planning for our Spring Talent Show which will be held on Friday, April 29th at St. Charles North High School. Here you will find a Google Form permission slip that includes specific information regarding the Talent Show. If you already turned in your paper permission slip, there is no need to complete this one. Our event will follow all current mitigation strategies and may need to be adjusted if current guidelines change.
