A Message from the Principal

Dear Woodland Families,

I can't believe that it is already Memorial Day weekend! The month of May just flew by as we have had so many great events - from the Art Show, to the 5th grade concert, Boys Bonanza, and many field trips. Thank you to the PTO for supporting all of our community events and field trips.

Also, today marks the last day of our spring testing season. It was so exciting to see how much the students have learned this school year. I'm so proud of our amazing Wildcats!

On Friday, June 9th we will have the opportunity to celebrate our 5th graders with our annual clap out. Weather permitting, we will be doing this outside on our walking path. Our TK-4th graders will be lined up along the path to cheer on our 5th graders while they walk. Each 5th grader may have as many family members as they want to cheer them on. Family members will need to park in the front and walk around to the playground gate in the back. Please arrive by 10:15am and we will begin the clap-out at 10:30am. The Clap Out will last about 10 minutes. You may stay to take a few pictures with friends or by our Woodland sign. We will need families to leave the playground and parking lot by 11:15am to avoid dismissal lines that may block you in. Families may choose to take their 5th grader home at this time (or out for ice cream!) by signing them out with Ms. Ivy at the playground gate.

We look forward to celebrating with you!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Katalin Rosinski

Field Day - June 1st

Field Day will be held on Thursday, June 1st this year. TK, Kindergarten, First, and Second grade will be playing games in the morning and tie-dying shirts in the afternoon. Third, Fourth (after field trip), and Fifth graders will be playing on the field in the afternoon and will be tie-dying when they are not at their main Field Day activities. Students will have fun out on the field playing sponge toss, leaky cup, water balloon hot potato, having sack races, three-legged races, and more! Your child may want to bring a change of clothes in case they get wet.

It is a day filled with lots of fun and laughter. Students need to dress for the weather and make sure they are wearing tennis shoes (not sandals or crocs). They also need to bring a water bottle with a name clearly marked and please have them wear their Woodland grade level colored shirt!

Unfortunately, due to updated security procedures, we will only be allowed to have parent volunteers at Field Day. This means no drop-in visitors. We will raptor all volunteers in advance and we will not be able to accommodate additional visitors. Please consider volunteering some of your time. Without volunteers, this event will not be possible.

5th Grade Clap Out

We are excited to be able to host our 5th Grade Clap Out as our kids bridge to the middle school! The Clap Out will be on Friday, June 9th. Participants should arrive by 10:15am. We would like to start at 10:30am.

There are some changes that we need to implement in order to make this happen.

  • Weather permitting, we will be doing this outside on our walking path. Our TK-4th graders will be lined up along the path to cheer our 5th graders on while they walk.
  • Family members will need to park in the front and walk around to the playground gate in the back. Ms. Ivy will check you in at a table.
  • The Clap Out will last about 10 minutes. You may stay to take a few pictures with friends or by our Woodland sign.
  • We will need families to leave the playground and parking lot by 11:15am to avoid dismissal lines that may block you in. Families may choose to take their 5th grader home at this time (or out for ice cream!) by signing them out with Ms. Ivy at the playground gate.

We look forward to celebrating with you!

Woodland Summer Tutor List 2023

Please Look For Missing Library Books at Home!

Please look under your bed, in your closets and through your book shelves at home to see if you have any school library books and turn them in ASAP.

All library books are due back to school by Thursday, May 25th. Mrs. Kowalski has been sending home book fine notices and all book fines need to be paid by Friday, June 2nd. You can pay the fines by cash or check made out to Avondale School District.

Medication at School

If your child has medication here at school, please plan to pick it up from the office before the last day of school on Friday, June 9th. We cannot send medication home with students. Any medication remaining in the office after June 12th will be discarded. When you pick up your student's medication, we will give you a new "Permission Form for Prescribed Medication" for next year. This form needs to be filled out annually and can be brought to Woodland in the fall for the start of school.

Wear Your Gym Shoes!

As the weather gets warmer, PE with Mr. Daniels will be heading outdoors to run. Please have your child wear their gym shoes every day.

Please Return Borrowed Clothing

If your child has borrowed any clothing from the Main Office, please remember to return it (clean) ASAP. We are running low on clothing to lend out to other students. Thank you!

Lost & Found is Overflowing!

Is your child missing a jacket, sweatshirt, coat, hat, or gloves? We have a clothing rack filled and tubs piled high with missing items. The items are being stored in the hallway near the Gym. The next time you are in the building, please see if some of the items belong to your child. Any unclaimed items will be donated by June 1st.

Woodland Volunteer Form

As classroom field trip season approaches, if you would like to volunteer as a chaperone, please make sure that you fill out the form below and attach a copy of your driver's license and return to the Main Office ASAP. It takes a few days for the background check, so we don't want you to miss out on a chance to chaperone a field trip!
