Thank You Penny Road families

I cannot believe it is time, once again, for me to sit down and write to our Penny Road families to thank you all for another wonderful school year. I don’t know if it is my age, my family’s jam packed schedule or the crazy weather we had to start the year but this one seems to have been the fastest school year yet. Before we officially check out for the summer, I wanted to thank all of you for your tremendous support this school year.

We had a very successful fundraising year which gave our PTA the opportunity to support our school in so many ways! In addition to the various programs and activities that our PTA financially supports year after year, we have been able to do the following this year:

  • Purchase walkie -talkies to enhance the safety of our staff and students on campus.

  • Purchase two different digital learning resources to help support classroom learning objectives.

  • Reimburse each full time, certified staff member up to $200 for some of their out of pocket expenses.

  • Give $1000 to each grade level to purchase things needed to augment their curriculum.

  • Purchase some much needed new Physical Education equipment.

  • Fund the purchase of new books for our Media Center.

  • Fund the purchase of electric keyboards so that Mrs. Koch, our music teacher, may introduce piano into her curriculum.

  • Pay for some much needed school “sprucing” in the way of paint and art work.

  • Cover the costs associated with the installation of an additional basketball goal on our school’s playground (to be completed in 2019).

  • Purchase some technology equipment, an ongoing need at our school.

In addition to your financial support, your gifts of time and talent were equally as important to Penny Road this year. Whether you helped your child’s teacher, helped with the Book Fair, Chess Club, Food for Friends, Books & Beyond, teacher luncheons, the Sweetheart Dance, Field Day, etc. you made a difference in life at Penny Road. As Ms. Sarah said at our Volunteer Appreciation Coffee, “Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, they just have the heart”. You all, in your own way, managed to show our students and our staff what they have been talking about all year:

#otherpeoplematter

It is difficult for me to continue to put into words all that I feel we, as a community, have been able to do for our school. Words may not be able to express it, but the smiles on our students’ faces and the expressions of gratitude from our school’s staff say it all.

Now that my time as PTA President is coming to an end I can honestly say this has been the most rewarding volunteer experience I have ever had. It has been a pleasure to work alongside a tremendous group of parents on this year’s PTA Board. I am grateful to them and to all of you for trusting me with this role and supporting me along the way. Our PTA is in wonderful hands with this year’s incoming PTA Executive Board, and I personally look forward to helping them in anyway I can. To our graduating families, best of luck to your new Middle Schoolers (and to you)! To our returning families, we look forward to seeing you in August when Penny Road will open its doors for the 30th school year! I hope you all have a wonderful summer!

Fondly,

Amy Toland

2017-2019 PTA President
