News & Updates

Happy May!

The countdown to middle school has officially begun! I'm trying not to think about how few days we actually have left together...:(

As for the students, they are working hard and growing so much as readers. Many have reached a level Z in reading this year! I'm incredibly proud of all their hard work.

Next week we begin our focused EOG review, "Survivor" style! We will be working in teams to earn beads and compete to win "immunity" from tasks all while learning test-taking strategies and ways to ace the test. They are super excited about this! Testing season can be very stressful for students and it is compounded by the knowledge that their regular school routine is coming to an end and things will be changing. I like to keep things fun, calm, and light-hearted as we approach the test to reduce stress and encourage positivity.

The reading log due this Monday, May 16th will be their last homework grade. I pushed them to get in those missing assignments at progress report time; the rest is up to them. I want them to continue to read nightly but not worry about outstanding work after this week. We will push through this testing time and then enjoy our last days as a class family. I feel like the mama bird, sending her babies out of the nest these days. xoxo

Tuesday, June 7 will be a full, regular day. I plan to let students sign yearbooks, take pictures, have a treat, and sign white shirts for each other. If your child wants to participate, they'll need a white T-shirt to sign that day. We will also have our PBIS celebration for those students who have earned it with great behavior.

Wednesday, June 8 is the final day and a HALF DAY/EARLY DISMISSAL. The 5th grade dance begins at 9:00 am!! Dismissal is at 11:45.

5th Grade Dance

Please see your email for a forwarded message from Rosanna Hansen, who is in charge of organizing our 5th grade dance. She volunteered to do this for us but if you are able to help her at all, please email her about ways to take some of the load off of her. I know she would appreciate all the help she can get with the very last elementary school event for your child. She also needs pictures of your child for the slide show ASAP!! Remember, the theme is top secret and only revealed to the students right before the dance!!

Can you help???????????????

I'll be real: it's like The Hunger Games around our classrooms these days. Students are hoarding the tiny stub pencils they have out of desperation. I bought five packs of pencils last month and they are gone already. I accepted homework in pink sharpie and highlighter this week: it's desperate times! If you could pick up a pack at the dollar store or Wal-Mart for your child to keep for themselves (or donate a pack or two if you feel sorry for us! ha ha) we would so appreciate it.

Parents that sent in paper and glue last month: THANK YOU!!!! We really needed it!! I think we can get by on what we have for the last weeks.

Middle School Camp & Forms

Forms for CCGMS summer transition camp came home this week. Please turn it in if you're interested in your child attending--it is first come, first serve and they only have a select number of slots.

HRMS camp info should be coming home soon; the counselors assured us that there would be one and info would be forthcoming.
