Avon Grove Charter School Spotlight
June 2021
From the desk of Kristen Bishop, CEO
Dear AGCS Community,
The famous African proverb, “it takes a village to raise a child,” should ring more true to parents and families today than ever before. As a staff and a school family, we are incredibly honored to have been able to support our families through this challenging and unprecedented time. We truly moved Forward Together. When a community supports a child, they build social and emotional support systems around that child. Schools make up a considerable part of the village and we are dedicated to supporting in any way we can. We learned a lot during this school year. Some things are positive and others we never want to see again. I know a lot of you reached out about the increase of teen suicides that you are hearing about in Chester County. What we need to remember before heading into the summer is that kids today are experiencing less connection, more isolation, anxiety, and depression. COVID-19 has only exacerbated these feelings. Not to mention, there is an entire generation of children who now can say they grew up with social media. While every child is different, as a whole, this generation is starting from a level much less connected to self and much more used to comparing themselves to others than any generation before them. This is why the village is still so important. Please take the time to read the information from Ryan Taylor, Special Education Director, if you feel that your child is suffering from depression or needs help in any way over the summer months. Find Ryan Taylor’s letter here.
This is also the time of year we celebrate our graduates. The most memorable days for me are always the first day of kindergarten and high school graduation. You take those pictures on the first day of school and are shocked at how much they have grown over the last ten months when you hold them side by side with the last day of school. This graduating class of 20/21 was my first Kindergarten class when we opened the Kemblesville Early Learning Center. Seeing them graduate this week all grown up and ready to take on the world is the most rewarding experience any administrator can have. Congratulations Class of 2021! You have all gained skills during this pandemic that will prove invaluable: resilience, adaptability, flexibility, and creativity. These skills are valuable in whatever life throws at you. Proud of you!
We will also be updating all of you on very important information through the summer months. Please continue to check your email for the latest updates and changes.
Thank you again for all your hard work, flexibility, and endurance to make it through the 20/21 school year. We are all ready for a reset after this week.
Forward Together,
Kristen Bishop
Head of School / CEO

Human Resources Update
AGCS Dance Fit! Thank you AGCS Community
To end the 2020-2021 school year, our K-8th grade students participated in the AGCS DanceFit Fundraiser, in partnership with BoosterTHON to raise money for enhancements to our outdoor classroom spaces. Students raised over $25,000 in profit (surpassing the original goal of $15,000) to go towards these future projects at both campuses. Our students enjoyed the daily character videos on teamwork, care, courage, and grit which ended with teachers facilitating classroom follow up discussions. Students loved earning rewards from the incentive program including ice cream and popcorn parties, PJ days, and many more rewards. Thank you to all of our students, staff, parents, and donors who helped make the AGCS DanceFit Fundraiser a success. We look forward to sharing how the students and teachers are utilizing the improved outdoor classroom spaces.
