Car Loop Changes: Pick-up
As a school, student safety is always our number one priority. To that end, in an effort to provide the most functional and safe car loop program possible we decided seeking outside support would be beneficial.
In February we coordinated with the Shawnee police department to gather data driven and time specific information about how our afternoon car loop functions. Sergeant Steve Walsh provided our team with drone footage of one days' afternoon car loop, measurements of our back parking lot, thoughts on our current practices, and what we feel is a fantastic suggestion on how we can improve the quality and safety of our afternoon car loop.
On Tuesday, March 19th, Sergeant Walsh will return to CCE to help facilitate the new afternoon car loop structure. As you can see in the map below, there are 4 important components that will help make this plan a huge success:
- upon entering the back parking lot it will be important for cars to follow the placement of all cones - these cones will guide the flow of traffic
- Sergeant Walsh determined there is enough room in our back parking lot that we can create three lines of cars (line A, B, C) to allow more cars in that space at one time. Think of Chic Filet or McDonalds and the multiple lines.
- As cars fill in these lines it will be important that they are filled from front to back (ABC, ABC, ABC)
- At dismissal time it is important that cars exit the back parking lot in the same way they lined up - ABC, ABC, ABC, etc. This will allow more cars to enter the lines that much faster.
Though it will take some time for us all to adjust to the new car loop set up, we are excited to share that the support from the Shawnee police department will continue for a short time. Their presence and guidance will allow both staff, students, and families to adjust slowly to what we feel will be hugely beneficial to our school.
