Can I Still Tour Colleges?
What to look for when doing a "virtual tour"
- Walking and distance: Have a campus map open while doing the virtual tour, this will give you an understanding of distance and how long of a walk you will have to move around the campus. Most virtual tours will cut out walking and travel, so this will help give you a better perspective.
- Personal Experiences: Are the tour guides sharing their experience as students? Being able to hear your tour guide's experience and asking them specific questions is part of the magic of a college tour. If you aren't getting this from your tour guide, try looking other places like the school's social media accounts.
- Food!: Another magical part of a college tour is eating the food in the dining halls. Why? Because this might be the food you will be eating for the next FOUR YEARS. The next best thing to actually eating the food is looking at dining hall menus, dining hall food reviews and social media posts tagging the dining halls.
- Residence Halls: Just like it is important to know what you will be eating, it is also important to know where you will be living. Along with making a decision to attend the school, some schools will also let you pick where you will live. Many campus tours let you see at least one residence hall. You can also look at the Residence Life website for floor plans, lifestyles, and cultures of the various residence halls.
