Hello Foster's Finest,
I had the most wonderful opportunity to participate as a judge in the annual Hingham Education Foundation Spelling Bee. Without a doubt, this was an incredible event put on by the incredible HEF volunteers who raise money for our students. Foster's students participated and were great representatives of our school community. If you have not had the chance to see this event, I highly recommend encouraging your child to participate next year.
The building project continues to be on track. The steel is pretty much in place and this past Tuesday, the second and third floors of the school were being poured in the back section of the new building. The first floor of the far portion of the building is anticipated to be poured next week. The final preparation are being made for the asphalt to be put down for the road into the school as well. Finally, the well field is completed for the geothermal heating, so things are really beginning to take shape out there.
Due to the weather today, we had to postpone the Veteran's Day Celebration to Monday. Thank you to all of our students who took the time to make me a card to thank me for my time in the US Army Reserves. It means a lot to me personally. There are numerous others who did so much more for our country and they deserve our gratitude. If you or a loved one served, I wanted to personally say thank you for your service to our great country.
Wishing you all a great weekend!
Mr. Scheufele
Picture Retake Day
Picture retake day is next Thursday, November 16th. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
Hingham Cares
Thinking about Thanksgiving and the holidays? Worrying about complicated family dynamics or creating the "perfect" experience? Join Linda Nathan, LICSW, for a virtual conversation about how to prepare yourself and your children for the pressures of the season!
Parent Pick-Up
Please remember to not stay on Downer Ave if the pick-up loop is full. The police department has asked that we stage overflow to the loop on Planter's Field Lane. One other thing that can help us immensely is if people could pull up (not in the crosswalk) as close as we can to fit as many vehicles into the loop as is possible. Your continued help is very appreciated.

ARTSONIA
This is from Mrs. McKeon, Foster School’s art teacher. Congratulations to the 4th grade classes, with 91% of families participating in Artsonia, the free student art portfolio site. 3rd (87%) and 5th (85%) are very close behind!
I love to start my day reading the lovely comments that are left for the children about their art, and so far this year, 62 compliments have been left. In the last 10 years, we’ve had over 66,500 people from all over the world visit our digital galleries.
If you haven’t joined yet, it is never too late! The art that I post will stay with your child long after they leave Foster. My goal is to upload 2 images from each child per term. Anything more is a bonus!
If you would like to approve and access your child’s portfolio:
Veteran's Day Assembly
Due to the rain today Foster will be honoring veterans at a Veteran's Day Assembly on Monday, November 13th, from 1:15 - 1:45 outside on our playground. We are inviting parents and grandparents of Foster students who are veterans to attend. If a family member is interested in attending, please email Eileen Farrell, efarrell@hinghamschools.org. Include in your email the veteran's name, branch of armed forces, rank, tours and/or wars, Foster student name(s).
Handbook and Code of Conduct
We still have families that have not completed the Aspen Family Portal process. Here is the link to the Student Handbook and you will find the Code of Discipline attached below. Thank you to everyone who has completed the update. Foster is so close to being the first school in Hingham to complete the process.
IMPORTANT: Families, please take a moment as soon as possible to complete important beginning of year documents via the Aspen Family Portal. These documents include the following:
Review of Contact Information
School Handbook Acknowledgement
Technology Acceptable Use
Student Photo Release Opt Out
Release of Student Data Notice
Find instructions for the "Parent Permission Workflow" HERE. If you need help with Aspen Family login, please email aspenhelp@hinghamschools.org
HPS is Here to Help
We know that making ends meet can be difficult for some families in our HPS community. Therefore, we want to let you know that there are individuals in each of our schools who are ready to provide information and assistance. Resources may be available to help families in times of financial need, or other challenging situations. Our particular area of outreach at this time is for food support for the upcoming holidays. Please don’t hesitate to contact an administrator, the school nurse, or counseling personnel in your child's school if you are in need of food support for the holidays. Rest assured that your request will be managed in a way that respects your rights for confidentiality.
Pantry Donations
Let's pack the pantry! Foster School will be collecting donations for the Hingham Food Pantry all year. Right now, the pantry is in need of healthy cereal, pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, canned tuna, and cookies. Please be sure to check that items are not expired before donating! There is a donation bin in the front lobby. Thank you for your generosity!
