The Eagles' Nest
October 2017
From the Desk of Principal Reddish...
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to our second issue of The Eagle’s Nest! Authored by our principal, Dr. Reddish, this will serve as an important means of communication to keep Eagleville families informed of what is happening at Eagleville School. Enjoy!
We got quite a bit accomplished in September including Back to School Night on September 12th and our first H&S meeting on the 13th. We also had our Ice Cream Social and Scholastic book fair last week. I would like to thank all of the families who attended these important events. We are also looking forward to more fun events this month.
Eagleville students completed fall assessments and will start Response to Instruction and Intervention (RtII) tomorrow, October 9th. All families should have received notification of your child’s tier placement for RtII, which is a homogeneous reading block aimed at improving students’ reading performance. As you may know, Eagleville is a Title I school which receives federal funding for programs that provide additional assistance to students who struggle in reading and math. Students in Tiers 2 & 3 are considered Title I students. We invite those families to participate in the planning of the district Title I student and parent programs. Please click here to view the District Title I Parent Policy and Title I School-Parent Compact.
A reminder that the District is hosting ELD Parent Night this Wednesday, October 11th 6:30PM-8:00PM at Woodland Elementary School. Invitations were sent out to families, but if you have questions, please contact the main office. Moreover, Eagleville will host a Math & Literacy Open House event for families in November. It will be a great time to learn about Wonders Balanced Literacy, our new reading program as well as Math in Focus, our math program. Look for a flyer in the coming weeks.
Also taking place this month is our evening Home and School Meeting on Wednesday, October 18th at 7PM. Prior to the H&S meeting, we will have our Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of great students) sign up pizza night that same evening 6:00-7:00PM. Our fall festival will be held at Eagleville School on Monday, October 31st this year. Fall parties and a parade will be held. More information pertaining to the festivities will follow, but I would like to remind everyone that gory, scary costumes or replicas of weapons are not permitted. Students who do not wish to participate will have the opportunity to participate in an alternate activity.
October is national anti-bullying month. We will have an all-school assembly on the morning of Oct. 13th that focuses on spreading the anti-bullying message. School Counselor, Mrs. Shaw, and I will also capitalize on this fun show by referencing it to reinforce our school expectations to keep one’s hands, feet and objects to himself. Moreover, we will help students understand the definition of bullying and how to respond when others exhibit bullying behaviors. Our goal is to continue to educate our students, so we can make our school safe and enjoyable for everyone.
One final reminder that school is in session tomorrow, Monday, Oct. 9th. Once again, thank you for helping to make the start of the school year a success. We appreciate you partnering with us for a TEAM effort! Together Everyone Achieves More!
Yours partner in education,
Zanthia
