Principal News
Dear Families,
Second semester is here and hopefully warmer weather is just around the corner. Thank you so much for working with us through this recent challenging weather. We know that closing school is not easy on families but certainly necessary at times to ensure the safety of students and staff. We are all adjusting to being back at school and getting into routines again. We will be using our February Celebration and H.E.R.O.E.S. time on Friday to have some fun to celebrate everyone’s hard work this first semester. Check in with your child for details. We will be practicing a barricade/lock down drill this month in classrooms as part of our emergency response procedure ALICE. All district staff engaged in a review of ALICE procedures today as part of our professional learning day.
If you would like more information on ALICE, please follow the link https://www.ecsdnet.org/families/school_safety.cfm This link is to the book that we read to students each year to familiarize and review ALICE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRTIpMft_u8
As you know, report cards are currently available for view on Skyward. If you would prefer a printed copy, please let your child’s teacher know. We are happy to provide paper copies of email communication including our monthly newsletter. We just need to know that you prefer this method. If you have any changes to your contact information, please contact Mindy Molloy at 882-3385 or molloym@evansville.k12.wi.us Thank you so much for helping us with this! We want to be able to contact you quickly if your child is sick or if there is an emergency. We also send out automated messages as a district which are based on the numbers and email that we have in Skyward.
Please let me know if you have questions, ideas or concerns. My direct line is 882-3842 and my email is DornB@evansville.k12.wi.us. We appreciate all that you do at home to support your child’s success at school! We are glad that you are here!
Hang out with us, learn with us, laugh with us, grow with us, work with us and celebrate with us!
Together we can strengthen relationships, build connections and create a learning community at Theodore Robinson that is a wonderful place to be for all staff, students and families.

3rd Grade Concert Information
Dear 3rd Grade Parents/Guardians,
On Thursday, February 28th the third grade will be performing Food Glorious Food in the Performing Arts Center, located at the High School. This program will last approximately 50 minutes. Each class will be featured as they play, sing and dance to songs about food.
This is a special event that all children are expected to attend. We are asking the students to wear nice performance dress clothes and comfortable shoes. Please call if you have any questions.
The concert starts at 6:30PM. Feel free to find a seat early, however we ask that you keep your child with you until 6:25PM. At this time each class will be announced separately to walk onto the stage. For safety concerns we ask that children stay seated with their parents until they are called on stage.
There will also be a performance during the daytime which will be held at 9:30 AM for the rest of the Intermediate school as well as any family members that can’t attend the evening performance.
If you have any questions, please call me at 882-3854. Thank you for your support in their music education!
Musically,
Cindy Zblewski
Yahara Rivers Writer's Contest
Yahara Rivers Writer’s Contest
Seventeen fifth grade students recently participated in the Yahara River Writer’s Contest at the local level. The main goal of this contest is to create an opportunity for those children who love to write or draw, to share their work and showcase their creative talents. Students could enter in the categories of poems, short story, editorial, or cartoon. All seventeen entries were evaluated by a panel of judges, and nine of these entries were selected to represent our school at the regional level.
Those students with prize-winning entries at the local level are: Brynlea Crull and Faith Mohrbacher-poetry; Kate Sendelbach and Felicity Cain-short stories; and Ava Olson, Nathan Scarmon, Geneva Vossekuil, Breigh Laufenberg, and Ellie Peterson-cartoons.
The regional Yahara River Writer’s Contest is sponsored by the Greater Dane County Advanced Learner Network. Once an entry arrives at the contest, it is evaluated by an experienced panel of judges. Students from all over the greater Dane County area submit entries so there are literally hundreds of entries in each of the four categories. The top-ten authors in each category are invited to attend a day-long workshop and award ceremony on the UW-Madison Campus in May. Each winning entry is also published in the Yahara River Writer’s Anthology.
We will be notified in March if any of our students qualify as top-ten authors. Congratulations to all who participated at the local level and best of luck to the nine students who have their work entered in the regional competition.

TRIS Students Prepare for Battle of the Books Competition
For the fifth consecutive year, students at TRIS are competing in the statewide Battle of the Books Program. This program is designed to promote a love of reading. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Each of the 25 questions asked in a battle, is answered by having teams of three to four students provide the title and author of the book. For example, one question might read, Name the book in which a horse and a boy are stranded on an island. The Battle of the Books is a fun, academically based competition that has been very successful in school districts throughout the state in encouraging students to read.
The competition is sponsored by WEMTA, Wisconsin Educational Media & Technology Association. Students at TRIS are competing in the elementary division, which includes students in grades 4-6. Students competing in the elementary division are busily reading from a selection of twenty books, all of which have been nominated Golden Archer winners for the primary and intermediate levels plus a variety of other award-winning titles.
TRIS students, all from Mrs. Wenzel’s 4th and 5th grade Book Clubs, will represent teams as they participate in Battle of the Books. Mrs. Beyerl, K-12 Librarian, Mrs. Gransee, TRIS Reading Specialist and Mrs. Wenzel, Advanced Learning Teacher, practice with students each week, leading up to a school-level Battle of the Books competition which will take place at TRIS on February 14th. The top-scoring team from the local competition will then go on to compete at the statewide Battle of the Books Competition, which will take place later in February.
