As we have shared, the division has asked schools to begin to implement an intentional coaching model. Coaches in our building include: Brooke Martinette, Nancy Lambert, Janet Roewer, Terri Hawley, Anne GZ and Metzger. While there are many models of coaching, the model we are embracing is the Content Focused Coaching model by Jim Knight. To begin this work, coaches will be visiting your classrooms to determine next steps. Many of you have already made your learning a priority and have invited a coach to work with you. As we begin this journey, we thank you for welcoming them to your room and embracing a VBCPS value of being open to change.

2016-2017 Annual Mandatory Safety Training

The window has opened for everyone to complete their annual on-line employee safety training. The modules this year include: first aid, CPR, Defibrillator, Life Threatening Allergies, Back Injury and Lifting, and Benefits Open Enrollment.

The CPR and Defibrillator module can be used for VDOE licensure and renewal requirements.

The Benefits Open Enrollment must be completed no later than Sept. 30, 2016.

All others may be completed anytime between Aug. 8 and Feb. 17, 2017. (The Trantwood Times editor has heard rumors that some are completing their training while watching the Olympics!)

Our goal is to continue with the Trantwood tradition of 100% completion by 100% of all staff. Thank you for doing your part!

Here's a picture of where to find the link to the training on the VBCPS homepage:

CONVERSION FROM READ180 NEXT GENERATION TO READ180 UNIVERSAL - the upgrade and change from our current Scholastic Server to an HMH Hosted Platform for our reading and math inventory assessments and reading and math programs. Students and teachers will now be able to access the following programs through our Clever Portal:Expert 21, FASTT Math, Fraction Nation, Math 180, Read 180, Reading Counts, System 44, Math Inventory and Reading Inventory.

This change will allow our students and teachers to use the same single sign-on they currently use for textbooks and other programs. As with many of our other programs, students and teachers can log on to the Clever Portal at If students or teachers are outside of the school network, on a Chromebook, IPAD or other personal device, they will be prompted for the same username and password they normally use to log on to the computer.

The HMH products listed above can also be accessed through the following direct link: If not logged on to a school computer, users will be prompted for a username and password, which is the same username and password they use to log on to a computer.

School staff who have SAM administrator accounts or teacher created accounts not in the Clever Portal will need to log in through the following new website: For questions regarding Clever logon, please contact instructional specialist Brooke Martinette. Thank you.

Tech Tips

A note from Brooke Martinette: As you know I go between two schools, so next week I will not be here. If you have any questions about anything, please ask. I want to make sure you have what you need to get through next week.

Here are a couple of things I could think of that you may have questions about…

Achieve 3000

· Have you done the initial level set yet?

· How to create assignments

· How to create a grade level assessment

· Do you have to set passwords this year … No it is single sign on through Clever

Reading Inventory (formerly SRI)

· Where is it now … the HMH button in Clever

Discovery Techbook

· Are you logging in as yourself with your VBCPS credentials (short email)?

o A lot of stuff will be shared via GAFE you need to be logging in with your VBCPS credentials, not your personal Google account

· If you plan on using Google Classroom do you need help setting it up?

Student Passwords

· How to set them …

Software Center

· How to install the software you are allowed to install (ActivInspire and Chrome are the big ones right now) without an administrator password …

I know there are tons of other questions you may have and it has been a busy week. Let me know if I can help in any way!

Daily: Post "I can" statements in a visible location using student friendly language.
