The Art World
We have so much Art News that I had better get started. We have twenty nine new members of Artsonia's Hall of Fame. Our new kindergarten members are Ellis Eskew, Trip Lebert, Andrew Penfield, Ben LeBlanc, Emmanuel Mouton, Ismael Arellano, Lori Kate Morein, Lydia Savoy, Raylee Walker, Ryan Lacock, Ryleigh Williams, Strason Istre, Aria Sookdial, and Mia Sookdial. New first grade members are Amelia Broussard, Audrey Edens, Meredith McCall, Sylvia Armentor, Rozlyn Neas, Bentley Soileau, and Gabe Walker. Our second grade new members are Addison Accord, Claire Knippa, Ellie Gage, and Adrien Allen. Third grade Hall of Famers are Greyson Snow and Karter Orndoff. Our fourth grade members are Branson Savoy and Talin Sheeley. Congratulations to you all!!
We had an exciting contest in sixth grade to select the Advent Card for Our Lady Queen of Heaven. They were all so good that the judges truly struggled. The winner's picture will appear on the Advent Card. The winners are as follows: First Place: Tanner Hamilton Second Place: Gabby Dimitrov Third Place: Claire Doumite and the two Honorable Mention winners were Jack Lefort and Landon Daughdril. Great work everyone!!
Kindergartners had to trace and cut out there hand prints to make tail feathers for their turkeys. We have just started on our Santa with Rudolph pulling the sleigh. First graders had to trace and cut out their feet to make tail feathers for their "cool" turkeys (they are cool because the turkeys are wearing shades). We, too, will do our Christmas picture "The Reason for the Season". Second graders are working hard on their "Fall Tree" and will also do a Christmas picture. Third graders are learning about symmetry by making angels and Nutcrackers which will be turned into Christmas ornaments. Fourth graders are working very hard on the Christmas Gourd Ornaments. They are painting with acrylic paint, outlining in Sharpie, and sealing with a polyurethane. I warned them that they better do well because Mom and Dad were going to hang their ornament on the tree forever, even after they are grown and have their own children.
Sixth graders just finished their Advent Cards (on display in the Fine Arts Building) and are starting to work on a self portrait of themselves as babies or toddlers on the Wacom Tablets in the PC Lab. I have not used the tablets with 6th Grade before and they are doing a wonderful job! Eighth grade is learning to paint by copying the Great Masters. This is what they do in Art School. They have chosen Picasso, Mattisse, O'Keeffe, Lichtenstein, Chagall, Van Gogh, and others. They had to draw the picture on paper and then it was transferred to canvas. They are painting with acrylic paint. Their work is outstanding and will be on display in the Library between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Parents: FRAME THESE!! I will be coming to your house to check and see that you framed them and they are on your wall. The Band/Chorus/Art Students from the first nine weeks are finishing their beautiful Day of the Dead Masks that will be used in the Dream Sequence in our play, "Fiddler on the Roof".
Remember, Artsonia's Gift Shop sells wonderful items that make great stocking stuffers and gifts! The OLQHS Art Department gets 20% of all sales.
I hope the students are enjoying having Art classes as much as I am enjoying teaching them. They are doing wonderful things! Remember we are creating, making messes, and having FUN!!

4th Grade Goes to Baton Rouge!
The 4th graders took a field trip to Baton Rouge on Nov. 11th. They first used their critical thinking and problem solving skills to build molecular robots at the science museum! Next, they visited the old capitol where they took part in "The Ghost of the Castle," a one of a kind immersive theatrical presentation where they came face to face with the castle's history, told by Sarah Morgan, an authentic Civil War-era figure who loved the castle. Lastly, they visited our Louisiana State Capitol, rising thirty-four stories above the Mississippi River and proclaimed to be the tallest state capitol in the United States! The views from the top were amazing! We had a wonderful time learning about our state and government during our time in Baton Rouge.

asbestos statement
Each year parents must be informed that the school has complied with all national standards regarding asbestos on campus. Certain vinyl floors and the panels that are below the quad windows will have to be handled appropriately if ever replaced. Our report indicates that existing asbestos is in good condition and we have the highest rating given. You are welcome to examine the asbestos file in the office if desired.
