January's Focus: Respect
What is Respect?
Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.
Why focus on Respect?
- Respect contributes to a positive culture. People feel safe, supported, and engaged in the context of thoughtful social, emotional, civic, and intellectual interactions.
- Respect decreases conflict. Respect helps us, and others, to be able to express ourselves without fear of being judged, humiliated, or discriminated against.
- Respect encourages empathy. Respect helps us to understand each other and put ourselves in someone else shoes.
Ponder this quotation: "Respect is learned, earned, and returned." - Author unknown
Takeaways:
- Authority and rules make many good things possible.
- Authority and rules keep us safe.
- Authority and rules promote a healthy culture for all of us to live in and flourish.
We all need rules and people to enforce them. While not all people use their authority correctly, most do, and they deserve our respect.

Featured Staff for November!
Meet -- Ms. Lott!
This is my 26th year in Education. I have taught special ed and Reading, In my spare time I love to read and cook. I have a son Brenden who lives in San Antonio with his wife. I believe that reading can help everyone enjoy a bigger life by experiencing others' stories and adventures.
Meet -- Mrs. Shaffer
My name is Kathryn Shaffer and I am the Math CCS on campus. I have four grown children and I am a new empty nester. However, me and my sweetheart have 3 Rottweilers that keep us very busy. On the weekends, I like to play pool, semi competitively, and I enjoy relaxing. As a child, all I can remember is aspiring to be an educator. I became a math educator because I enjoy math. More importantly, I became an educator to make a difference by empowering students to become lifelong learners and to prepare young people for the future. I enjoy being an educator!
Meet --- Coach Wuensche!
My name is Zane Wuensche and this is my second year in education. I teach 8th Grade U.S. History and coach boys' basketball. When I completed my internship at FIS in 2021 under Mrs. Pitts, I knew there was really no other place that I wanted to be full-time. A few fun facts about myself are that I attended Texas A&M (c/o 2018), own two dogs (a pug and golden retriever), and absolutely have a passion for sports, video games, and spending quality time with my family. I chose to enter the teaching profession because I had several teachers/coaches who influenced me in a positive way growing up and serving my community has always meant the world to me. Mentoring youth does not feel like work, but it is certainly a privilege I do not take lightly!
