Mrs. Smit's Kindergarten News

What to ask

Want to get your kiddo talking about what they are doing here at school? Here are a couple questions/subjects to help guide the discussion:

* Talk to me about number sentences, can you show me one?

*What family tradition did you write about?

*Did you learn about other traditions?

Friday was World Kindness Day we wrote thank you cards

This week:

In reading this week we focused on more books about family traditions and worked on a "quilt", we are not done yet. Ask your student about The Thanksgiving Door, Take me out to the Yakyu. We were inspired by the books we read and the traditions that everyone shared. Next week we are going to focus on characters and setting of the stories making connections with how pilgrims lived a long time ago.

The sight words for next week are: yellow, green & blue

In math we worked on more adding and subtracting, we will talk about decomposing numbers and 3 dimensional shapes next week.

In writing we wrote about our family traditions and worked on representing our tradition as well as continuing to work on writing books that have a beginning a middle and an end.

Veterans was our focus in social studies. We learned about the branches of the military and that Veterans are men and women that have worked very hard to serve and protect our country.

It has been a great week, thank you for sharing your children with me!
