Collins-Maxwell Elementary

April 2022

Now is the Time to Get Involved!

We have a fantastic parent group, Partners in Education (PIE) who has provided so many awesome opportunities for our students and staff at Collins-Maxwell Elementary. We truly wouldn't be able to do what we do without their support. Some of the ways they have helped our school are:

  • New playground structures and equipment
  • Rock wall
  • Music instruments
  • Kimber's monthly food costs
  • Staff meals during PT conferences
  • Field trips
  • Outdoor classroom and Addy's Garden
  • Many more!

Along with purchasing items, PIE also takes the lead on great events like the upcoming Family Game Night and our Family Dance.

We would love for more parents to be involved with this group who meets only a few times a year. Although we are starting to wind down the 2021-2022 school year, now is a great time to plan to be active in this group for the upcoming school year!

Grandparents Day

Friday, April 22nd, 1pm

416 4th Avenue

Collins, IA

We would like to invite your child’s grandparents to visit our school on Grandparent’s Day that will be held on Friday, April 22. Activities will begin at 1:00 in the individual classrooms. After approximately 45 minutes we’ll adjourn to the gym for a program presented by our students under the direction of our music teacher. The program begins at 2:00.

We ask that grandparents arrive at the school no earlier than 12:50. Greeters will help direct them when they arrive.

Students whose grandparents are unable to attend may invite another relative or special friend.

Anyone who has more than one grandchild in the elementary should feel free to split their time between their grandchildren’s classrooms.

We all are looking forward to this special day and hope the Grandparents will enjoy their visit.

Respect Week

Students participated in activities to practice inclusion. They worked together to complete activities. The activities included: using shapes to create a picture; using legos to build a specific shape; used marshmallows and toothpicks to create buildings; and used GraviTrax to create a maze for their marble. The students had a lot of fun and did great working together and including everyone!

Students Participate in Real World Learning

Students in Mrs. Allen's class participated in several real world learning events over the last month. Here are a few places and activities they got to participate in!

The students in Mrs. Allen’s class created a shopping list for their snacks for the month! Then they went to Hy-Vee to shop to find the items in the store. They scanned all their items at the register, and bagged the items to take back to school.

The students went to the movie theater in Newton to see Clifford the Big Red Dog. They practiced ordering their ticket and ordering their snack for the movie!

The students had the opportunity to participate in some games and activities at a Play Day sponsored by Special Olympics. They invited a friend to tag along! They had a great time & were wore out by the end!
