This Week: HUMOR

You like to laugh and bring smiles to other people. Humor is a sense of playfulness and lightness. It is a way of looking at and describing the world that brings laughter to people. A person with the strength of humor is skilled at seeing the funny side of things, bringing smiles and laughter to others, and identifying and communicating the absurdities in life. People with this strength don’t specifically need to be joke tellers, although many are. Individuals with this strength are often referred to as funny, witty, hilarious, amusing, or playful.

A Message From the 5th Grade Tea Chair

I am so grateful to every parent who kindly volunteered to help with last Friday's 5th Grade Tea! Thank you all for giving so generously of your time and for making this year’s Tea a very special and memorable event for our 5th graders.

I would like to say a special thank you to the Tea committee members (Volunteer Coordinator: Jennifer Greco, Greeter Coordinator: Lea Ann Baker, Room Coordinators: Amy Gresko & Alice Tate, Music Coordinator: Laurie Cockman, Tea Coordinator: Colleen Trevaskiss, Sandwich Coordinator: Patricia Moore, Dessert Coordinator: Abby Slee, Photography Coordinator: Rosemarie Brady, Food-Allergy Coordinator: Linda Derricks, and Decorations Coordinator: Tammy Pittman). Without your presence and assistance in the days leading up to the event, this long-standing tradition would not have happened. Your support and great ideas were a tremendous help.

Also, thank you to the 5th grade teachers for being so patient with me and for your continued guidance throughout the planning process. Lastly, thank you to the special guests for attending the Tea and making the afternoon such a wonderful occasion for the students. I love this Penny Road Elementary tradition, and I am so honored to have had the opportunity to chair this great event.

With Much Appreciation,

Denise Rose

Volunteer Spotlight

Between now and the end of the school year, we will once again be highlighting some of the volunteer positions we know we will need help with next year. We are losing some amazing volunteers to 5th grade graduation at the end of this school year, but we are confident that we will find volunteers who are equally dedicated to fulfilling these roles!

Corporate Sponsorship is an important component of our PTA’s fundraising efforts. Our goal is to raise $5000 in sponsorships for the coming school year. This job is ideal for 1 or 2 volunteers who will be responsible for soliciting the financial support of local businesses, as well as, larger companies who may offer financial support to schools. Most of this work is done from home or the office and involves phone calls, emails and follow up. We have existing paperwork to help get the volunteers started. The PTA president and the Vice President of Fundraising are also available to work closely with these volunteers for advice and input.

    • 1-2 volunteers working as a team.
    • Time commitment: The time commitment is probably 30 hours over the course of the year, but of course it depends on how the process goes. The goal is to have most of the sponsorships completed shortly after the start of the school year. Throughout the year, there is some follow up required.
