PORT ANGELES SCHOOL DISTRICT
NEWS AND NOTES - OCTOVER 2023
FALL HAS ARRIVED!!!
We want you to know that your active involvement is not just valued; it's essential. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Together, we'll make this school year a remarkable one!
With the hard work of WSU Clallam County Extension SNAP-Ed staff (a local Farm to School Consultant) and PASD, we have been awarded a $109,000 Healthy Meals Incentives grant to make lasting, student-led change to school nutrition between September 2023 and September 2025.
The Healthy Meals Incentives Grant is made possible through a partnership between the United States Department of Agriculture Food, Nutrition Service, and Action for Healthy Kids. The grant aims to help rural and high-need school districts change school meals to better align with the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
We want students, teachers, and parents to LOVE our school meals. Please complete this short survey so we can make sure school meals are healthy and delicious.
Since time immemorial, American Indians, Alaska Natives, and Native Hawaiians have built vibrant and diverse cultures — safeguarding land, language, spirit, knowledge, and tradition across the generations. On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, our Nation celebrates the invaluable contributions and resilience of Indigenous peoples, recognizes their inherent sovereignty, and commits to honoring the Federal Government’s trust and treaty obligations to Tribal Nations.
The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe will celebrate by opening up the Elwha River for tribal members to fish for the first time since the dam removal in 2011. Join us by sharing the good news. Lower Elwha Klallam people have waited more than one hundred years to see this day. We thank the Klallam elders and the Lower Elwha Klallam leaders for never giving up for all those years.
Indigenous People's Day can look different for every tribe. Check out this link to learn more.
