Class of 2021 Counseling Update
June 2020
#BETTERTOGETHER
It has been quite an interesting end to the year. I am looking forward to supporting The Class of 2021 and parents as we proceed forward with Post-Graduation Plans. Planning for post-graduate success is a process that includes exploring options; gaining real-world experience and knowledge; creating, evaluating, and implementing a plan for after graduation that may include college, a trade school, entering the military, or the workforce.
To be successful in this process, there are a few objectives that you need to check off the list prior to your senior year beginning. Students must complete the resume and cover letter, register for the SAT, and research colleges/trade schools or the military. For those of you that are interested in attending a four-year college, please create a CommonAPP account. CommonAPP will prepare you for applying to colleges in October.
During the year I have asked students to complete their resumes using Career Cruising. The resume is important for teachers and me to write you letters of recommendation. If you haven't completed the resume, now is the time to complete it.
Senior interviews will begin in July and run through September. Mrs. Steel will be reaching out to you to schedule your interview with me. The most successful students in this process have their parents beside them every step of the way. Parents are welcome to attend this meeting. More than likely the Senior Interviews will be on Google Hangout or Zoom. The interview typically lasts 1 and a half hours. Be ready to Rock and Roll!!!
Before you can move onto to your future plans, you must graduate from high school. Graduation requirements include students earning at least 130 credits and obtaining threshold scores in math and in English. These scores can be met using NJSLA, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and ASVAB testing. The PSAT and ASVAB will be offered in October 2020.
Please continue to peruse through the Class of 2021 Google Classroom. Information will continue to be provided over the summer using this tool. RHS Guidance is looking to providing a Virtual College Fair in September. You should be vetting schools well before this time. Many institutions have virtual campus tours. Take advantage of that opportunity.
Most importantly, remember your greatness! You have been put on this earth with a purpose. High school is the time in everyone's life to fine tune the gifts and talents that are innately in you. Giving yourself the BEST life ever takes planning and time. I am here to help you every step of the way! Now, get to "step-in."
Be well,
Ms. DiLuzio
