November 2022
Message from the Superintendent
Greetings Emery community,
The holidays are here! As we approach the end of the year, now is a great time to reflect on what we have accomplished! Our school district community has grown and every day, our educators and students are exceeding expectations and excelling in their academic work. There is so much to look forward to in the new year!
Safety remains critically important to our school district. We are grateful to be in a position where we can enjoy in-person instruction and activities.
Our school district will be providing our families with COVID-19 test kits for students to use before returning from Thanksgiving Break. Please have students take the test by Monday, November 28, to ensure students do not spread COVID-19 in their classrooms when school resumes. This effort can keep our district safe so we can start the school year strong.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Break and returns to school healthy and safe. I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday, November 28, 2022. Happy holidays!
Sincerely,
Dr. Quiauna Scott
Superintendent

Mental Health and Wellness
The winter break can create a change in students’ daily routines. If you notice a change in behavior in your child and feel you need additional support regarding health and wellness resources, please contact our Health and Wellness department.
Emeryville School Based Health Center provides a variety of critical health and wellness services. To learn more, please visit their website here. Below are a variety of resources for families this winter.
Family Literacy Month
November is Family Literacy Month! We encourage families to read together during the breaks from school. Literacy is important at every age and is the key to educational advancement.
Visit Ms. Turner’s library class website at https://sites.google.com/emeryusd.org/msturnersclass/home for recommendations and resources.
We also encourage families to visit your local library and check out programming to keep kids engaged and reading during school breaks. Visit Alameda County Libraries https://aclibrary.org/ for more information. Remember that reading opens a world of imagination and learning for the children!
Child Safety and Protection Month
November is Child Safety and Protection Month. There are many policies our district has in place to keep our students safe on campus and in the classroom, and safety at home is also critically important.
We want our students to be healthy and safe each day that they come to school. There are so many ways to keep your kids safe, including practicing car passenger safety, taking kids to routine health checkups, knowing the signs of anxiety and depression in children, and maintaining an open dialogue with children about their feelings and experiences. There are many things that we as educators, parents and responsible adults can do to keep our kids safe.

This holiday break, be sure to keep safety a priority. Prevent the spread of COVID-19 by getting tested, and also prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses from holiday foods by knowing how to best handle raw foods, canned foods and cleaning chemicals.

Pedestrian and traffic safety continue to be critically important for all our students, staff and families on their way to and from school. We encourage parents and guardians to report suspicious activity around our school to the front office. Keeping our community safe takes teamwork.
