CJHS Students Embrace B.Y.O.D. Program

Central Jr. High School is currently in its third year of a B.Y.O.D. Pilot Program that has become a model for southern Illinois school districts. Under the direction of Principal Charley Cass, students in 7th and 8th grade have the option to use pre-approved mobile devices for classroom instruction and digital learning.

BYOD helps our students:

  • Embrace mobile technology,
  • explore content more quickly and efficiently,
  • and gives our staff the opportunity to teach digital citizenship.

Currently, the CJHS faculty and staff are in the early stages of exploring Flipped Classrooms and the use of Chrome Books for 1:1 learning as part of the district's #FutureReady initiative. To learn more about the CJHS B.Y.O.D. Program, please contact Mr. Cass at ccass@wfschools.org. You can also follow him on Twitter at @CharleyCass.

Community Engagement (Social Media)

Frankfort CUSD 168 is a leader in social media strategies after launching its official school district hashtag (#wfredbirds) at the start of the 2014-15 school year. Today, the #wfredbirds hashtag has become the No. 1 source for parent and community engagement through Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. To enhance the social media experience, each school displays "Tweets of the Week" each day via Apple TV and TagBoard, a web-based program that creates a safe and fun presentation model. A total of 110 faculty and staff members are now active Twitter users.

"There's nothing more powerful than telling your own story and promoting all the wonderful things happening in our schools each day. Our school district hashtag gives us the opportunity to celebrate our success on our own terms. It's been a game changer for our school district."

-Dr. Greg Goins, Superintendent
