Cell Biology
Cell Biology is the study of cell structure and function, and it revolves around the concept that the cell is the fundamental unit of life. Focusing on the cell permits a detailed understanding of the tissues and organisms that cells compose.
Some Interesting people
Matthias Jacob Schleiden
Matthais Jacob Schleiden born april 5, 1804, was educated at Heidelberg and practiced law in Hamburg. Soon after he developed his hobby of botany into a full-time pursuit. Schleiden preferred to study plant structure under the microscope. he wrote “Contributions to Phytogenesis”, in it he states that the different parts of the plant organism are composed of cells or derivatives of cells. He also recognized the importance of the cell nucleus and saw its connection with cell division. Schleiden became one of the first German biologists to accept Darwin’s theory of evolution.
Theodor schwann
Theodor Schwann studied at the Jesuits’ College at Cologne before attending the University of Bonn and then the University of Würzburg, where he began his medical studies. After graduating with a medical degree from the University of Berlin, Schwann assisted physiologist Johannes Peter Müller. While investigating digestive processes, he isolated a substance responsible for digestion in the stomach and named it pepsin, the first enzyme prepared from animal tissue.
Rudolf Virchow
German pathologist and statesman, one of the most prominent physicians of the 19th century. He pioneered the modern concept of pathological processes by his application of the cell theory to explain the effects of disease in the organs and tissues of the body. He emphasized that diseases arose, not in organs or tissues in general, but primarily in their individual cells. Moreover, he campaigned vigorously for social reforms and contributed to the development of anthropology as a modern science.
