A Message from Dr. Stone
We're winding up January at WoodCreek with another great week! It's been a fun one with our dress-up days for Digital Citizenship Week - check out the graphic to see what the remaining days' themes are.
Progress Reports go home this week too, so be on the lookout for those from your students.
Basketball season closes out next week - don't miss your last chance to come root on our Timberwolves at their last games! See the schedule below for game times and locations. Track & Field and Tennis will be starting up soon, and there is information for you in this newsletter if your 7th or 8th grader is interested in participating.

Help WCJH Win and Help the KatyISD Education Foundation!
If you haven't heard, WCJH is partnering up with Stockdick Junior High for a Reason2Race on February 8, 2020. The race raises money for the KatyISD Foundation that provides grants to classroom teachers in our district so they can continue to provide unparallelled experiences for students. WCJH has been fortunate to benefit from these grants in past years! The campus team who raises the most money gets "The Golden Shoe" and bragging rights for the whole year. If you feel so inclined, please consider donating any amount of money to any of our staff members who have signed up!
We appreciate your support!

2020-2021 Course Selection
2020-2021 Course Selection has begun here at WCJH!
* 8th grade students: Both Katy High School and Tompkins High School counselors did their course selection presentations for our 8th graders this week. Course selection sheets were sent home with the students. Student course selection sheets are due back to their Science teacher on Friday, January 31st.
Please note that there is an error in the Tompkins High School course selection sheet. The sheet states that a director's signature is required to enroll in Choir 1 - this is incorrect. Any student is welcome to sign up for Choir 1 without a director's signature. Please contact Christin Reinartz at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions about the Tompkins Choir program.
*6th and 7th grade students will receive their 2020-2021 course selection sheets from their Science teachers on Thursday, January 23rd. These course selection sheets are due back to their Science teacher on Thursday, January 30th.
Information for 8th Graders going to Katy High School
Also, with course selections for 8th graders rapidly approaching, many parents and students are wondering about the difference between PAP/KAP world geography and AP human geography. At 5:45 on Wednesday the 29th, the AP human geography teacher will talk to parents before the academic fair begins. Mrs. Taylor will discuss the differences between the two courses and can answer questions parents have. This is not a mandatory meeting, but it can be helpful if parents have questions.
2020 KISD Summer Programs for Students
8th grade students wishing to take a high school credit course (for original credit) over the summer can register February 3rd-May 1st.
Junior high students needing to take a course for recovery credit will be contacted by their counselor in May if summer school is necessary.
Please contact Leah Caffey if you have additional questions. LeahCCaffey@katyisd.org

Celebrating WCJH 8th Grade Career Day
Please join us in thanking Ms. Watkins, Ms. Thomas, Junior Achievement and Geico in the organization of the first ever Career Day at Woodcreek Junior High on Jan. 17, 2020! The PTA and our parent volunteers were thrilled to be able to help our school staff by providing volunteers, speakers and meals.
Many area professionals shared with our 8th grade students about their various careers. Ms. Watkins and the PTA arranged for several different representatives from the fields of Arts, Humanities, STEM and the Public Sector. We had police officers, State Representatives, Nurses, Dentist, Engineers and so much more. In the afternoon Junior Achievement and Geico provided the students with a few different activities including financial literacy and soft skills for the future.
Our first WCJH Career Day was a wonderful success, and we look forward to making it a regular event for our 8th graders!
