Weekly Message from the Principals

Dear SOK families,

Tonight is another sign that life is moving towards a new normal - our STAR party is from 6:00p - 8:30p here at SOK, including a movie, games, prizes, food, and dancing! We are expecting over 400 students who have demonstrated growth and achievement on our recent STAR tests to show up tonight for the celebration. Rumor has it that Mr. Evans, Mr. Pratt, and even Mr. Hillman will be taking a turn as DJs - you won’t want to miss this! Well done Spartans!!

SOK MUSIC CONCERT

Next Wednesday, May 18th our SOK bands and choir will be performing in our Spring Music Concert. The program begins at 6:00p in the Old Gym - please join us!

SPARTAN SHOWCASE FOR NEW STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

On Wednesday evening June 1st, we will be opening our doors to students and families who will be new to SOK this fall. This Spartan Showcase is a fantastic opportunity to meet our teachers, learn all about our core and elective offerings, explore our extracurricular activities, and take a tour of our school. Please join us on June 1st!

STATE TESTING IS UNDERWAY

From Thursday, May 12th - Friday, May 20th students will be taking the SBAC English Language Arts test, and the following week, May 23rd - May 27th, students will be taking the SBAC Math test. During the English Language Arts window we will be shifting to a block schedule to provide longer sessions for students to complete this assessment. Please encourage your child to put forth their best effort on these assessments to reflect all of the hard work, learning, and growth they have demonstrated this year.

For families who are willing and able, we will gladly accept donations of healthy snacks (granola bars, cheese sticks, etc.) to provide some additional brain food for our students. Donations may be brought into our school office - thank you!!

CONNECTING WITH YOUR STUDENTS ON CANVAS

We want to encourage all parents/guardians to pair with your students as an observer in Canvas. This is a great way to learn more about what your student is doing in each of his/her classes, check on grades, and assist as needed. The instructions to pair are here on the Student/Parent Training Course. You can also view the Canvas instructions on how to do it. Click here for the instructions in Spanish.

Message from the Teen Center at Boys & Girls Club

Hi there!

My name is BreAnna Rae and I work for the Boys and GIrls club Teen Center. I am hoping to boost our enrollment and was hoping you may have some students in mind that may benefit from a free afterschool program.

I am requesting perhaps a list of students with contact information that you feel need extra academic support, the families could use some daycare, or that could utilize our enrichment program.

I have attached a flier of our program if that is helpful. My program is actually until 6:30 not 6 as the flyer states.

I appreciate your help and support!
