Nov. 5 - 9, 2018
Math
Monday, the students will be using a scale to find the weight of various classroom objects in grams or kilograms. Tuesday, we will solve weight word problems. Wednesday & Thursday, the students will measure liquid volume in liters or milliliters. Friday, the students will solve measurement word problems involving grams, kilograms, liters, and milliliters.
Reading
Monday, we'll finish up our study of personality traits when we discuss different Disney heroes and villains that exhibit specific traits. Tuesday, the students will take a pretest over prefixes & suffixes. The rest of the week, we will learn how to pronounce, define the meaning of, and give examples of words with various prefixes.
Writing & Spelling
Monday, I will model for the students how to read & put into their own words important facts that they learn about their topic. The rest of the week, they will be reading their own books & online articles while taking notes over the important facts that they learn about their informative writing topic.
Our Spelling unit this week will cover: long e spelling patterns (ee & ea), antonyms, and inferring.
Science
Tuesday, the students will create a diagram of a plant's life cycle. Wednesday, we will review the stages in a plant's life cycle along with similarities & differences between the life cycle of a fruit and a vegetable plant. Then, the students will take their test over plant life cycles. Thursday, we will see how a butterfly goes through complete metamorphosis. Friday, the students will see how a frog develops from a jelly-like egg into an adult.
