No matter what your personal feelings on high-stakes testing are, there is no escaping the reality that these assessments will be an important part of your child’s academic experience. And, everyone wants to see their student experience success in the classroom. So, what’s the best way to help your child prepare for high-stakes tests—and keep a healthy mindset while doing so? Here’s eight simple tips for parents to help your student perform his or her best on testing days.
1. Make sure your child gets an ample, normal amount of sleep the night before the test.
2. Mark testing days on your calendar to remind you and your chld when the testing days are.
3. Eat a nutritious breakfast. Avoid sugar cereals that can make a student feel hyper or unfocused.
4. Make sure the student is on time!
5. Try not to put too much pressure on your child.Reinforce that as long as they do their best and work hard you will be proud.
6. Have your child visualize success.
7. Try to use positive language when talking about expectations of the test.
